baby black bearMommy Help Me! Oh, Dear God Help Me!

This picture courtesy of NJ Wildlife Management. I have been trying to get to my car to go to work ever since 9am but there is a baby Black Bear up a tree in my yard, you might say hey go for it you'll be in the car before the Bear gets down. Easier said than done!

Momma Bear is waiting for her cub with a few more of them by her side. Now I know I can't more quicker than her so I stay home wishing I could get to my camera that is in my car.

This is the cutest thing I have seen in a long time, Momma seems like she is speaking and sometimes yelling get down from there and the baby keeps shaking his head no way! The baby is holding on for dear life. Momma bear is the biggest I have seen this year she looks like she is at least 7-800 pounds and the baby in the tree is no light weight either. The other two cubs are rolling around my back yard without a care in the world.

In the last three hours this baby has moved about a foot down the tree and every-time Momma says something it makes a noise like Dear God don't let her spank me and it just holds on tighter to the tree. OOPS, he move down again now Momma is standing on her hind legs and baby is starting to shake all over and yelling back to Mommy help me!

This is an awesome thing to watch and I thank God for allowing me the opportunity to enjoy nature at its finest and funniest.

Oh no, the two cubs are about a foot away from my back door, I hope Mommy gets her baby quick other wise when my kids get home from school we will all be praying Dear God Help Me!

Gary, can you call an animal control agency or the police?

Hope they're gone before the kids get home!

11/14/2007 04:12 PM by Orlando Homes Armando Rodriguez Real Estate & Mortgage Broker-GRI (QUEST REALTY SERVICES)

Good call Gary.  Those fellas are alot faster than they look.  How cool is that.  We're in newer construction, so I don't even get to see squirrels!

11/14/2007 04:12 PM by Stacy and Jackie Jones, Houston/Katy Realtors (The Jones Team)

Gary,

I would just wait for animal control to take it and put it in a safer enviroment.

11/14/2007 04:51 PM by Neal Bloom-Realtor ® Assoc.-CRS-Weston FL (RE/MAX Premier Associates)

Wow! How awesome (and scary) is that? I think I would FREAK out if there were black bears in my back yard.

11/14/2007 05:16 PM by No Longer Active Albany & Brownsville OR Real Estate (No Longer Active)

Hi Gary I have had a black bear in my tree a few times I love watching it, but some of the neighbors are idiots and call the cops on it. First off they are protected here in Florida and cant do anything but watch it too. These stupid neighbors also insist on following the bear while calling the cops. I prayed the bear would turn around and maul them. Is that wrong, survival of the fittest and smartest. Your Orlando & Lake Mary Real Estate Expert Heather Joubran

What a cool thing!!! Stuff like that never happens to me. Thanks for sharing and God bless you!!

Not that long ago, in a neighboring town the animal control shot and killed a bear in a tree leaving its cubs behind. Now grant it they say the bear approached a house and went after the garbage but, for me I'd rather be inconvenienced for awhile rather to have something so beautiful killed in my yard.

Dear Stacy & Jackie

It's the new construction that is driving these bears closer to the open area's, give it time you'll see something. The deer in this area are like lawn ornaments!

11/16/2007 10:18 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Neal

I'd rather wait till it leaves on its own, as long as its not hurting anyone who cares?

11/16/2007 10:19 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Alecia

I would think being from Oregon you would have bigger bears or animals than these guys. And your right it was awesome!

11/16/2007 10:21 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Heather

Seems like there is idiots everywhere! My neighbors may be related to yours but, I would never want to watch a bear attack on any of them or even know that it happened to one of them.

11/16/2007 10:25 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Elizabeth,

I was reading up on these guys and experts say that a Black Bear can cover 100 square miles in a day!

Keep your fingers crossed maybe one will visit you soon. Thanks for commenting, may God Bless you always!

You must live in the woods.  We have a family of 3 raccoons living in our back yard in the trees.  Its so awesome when they venture out.  I love to watch them.

I live in the country but the house's on my street are pretty close together. Once you leave the street you are in nowhere land. Often, I have 20-30 deer sleeping in my back yard at night. The only thing I don't like is the snakes in the summer.

They are awesome! Do you get to see many gators?

I saw this post yesterday and I did not have the time to comment...I can now.....

I think this is so cute!!  I am glad you got the time to make a good situation out of what happened... you never know...an accident with Satans signing of your name may be have been avoided...... who knows what good things God did with this time.....

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've been faced with death knocking at my door. God has always been by my side and I feel he will continue to guide me all my days.

When I think of New Jersey I certainly don't think about Black Bear in my front yard. I think you made the right decision to stay and watch!

Todd

Yea, it was a good decision to stay home. Ended up getting allot of work done.

11/19/2007 11:53 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Can you tell us now what happened in the end?  Were the bears gone by the time the kids got home from school?  Did you have to call anyone or did they leave on their own?  Did the baby get down without further help from mom?  It's a great story, I'd just be interested to find out how it ended up...

11/19/2007 12:11 PM by Carolyn Shipp Mineral Wells, Texas Real Estate (United Country Cason Real Estate)

As my son says..."How cool is that?!" I see a bear maybe once a year here, but to have that in your yard.  Amazing.  Best of luck to all of you.

The Baby did get down on its own, the mailman was in the area and I think that may have had something to do with it. I myself would not call the game warden or police, my feelings are that by me having a home with land I am invading on their territory. I welcome all the animals as long as they do not hurt someone in my yard I will not hurt them.

Anyway, getting off my soap box! They ran off further into the woods and all was well before the kids got home from school. I was kinda hoping to see them again today because we are getting snow and I needed an excuse to stay home.

11/19/2007 12:25 PM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Amy

There is always big controversy about hunting them each year. Just a few years ago it was illegal to hunt them, then there were more and more complaints about them so the State allowed a Couple of years of hunting them. What do people expect you build in their property your going to see them.

What an incredible experience.  I think sometimes the universe wants us to slow down and look at how the other half lives.  One of my friends encountered a big black bear when riding her bike.  She was really frightened and didn't know what to do.  How did this whole thing finally get resolved?

11/19/2007 11:02 PM by Joan Whitebook, ABR, e-Pro, CEBA (Buyer's Option Realty Services)

Joan

The Bear finally came down and they all ran off into the woods. Its nice to slow down a bit.

There was an article on the front page of yesterday's Star Ledger about the beaver coming to NJ. They said how destructful they are.

We still have Beaver here, they need to be protected. There are only a rare few up by me but they are here.

we could all do more when were scared their is some one but when their parents are dead what can they do.

02/27/2008 07:01 PM by chante

Chante

Everyone goes through life at some point in time when their parents are dead. We just have to hope that they did their best job with us before they departed.

Gary,

First of all, I love your name.  How cool is that?  Thanks for this great post.  It is neat to witness real nature at work.  Glad everything worked out.

I have also seen them up close and personal here in Tn.  I am a former Jerseyite so I know that Sussex Counnty is prime territory.  Enjoy.

You should blog about what happened to the bears so we know the story. Very cute, we don't hava that close of Wildlife in Los Angeles, Calif. It is very rare to see a bear in the foothill mountains. It is usually only one.

Thanks for commenting, what part of New Jersey did you use to live in?

03/01/2008 06:43 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Mary

As far as I know they ran of into the woods and my kids where safe to come home. I know that you most likely won't see this where you live but, what about the Great Whites that are lurking your coast lines? Do you get to see any of that action?

03/01/2008 06:48 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Hi Gary,

What a great story. Thank you for sharing.

I too am in SoCal, and while I’ve never seen any Great Whites, we did have two of them hanging out for a couple of weeks at one of the beaches where I surf. Thank God I wasn’t there!

But it is VERY cool to see all the dolphin, seals, etc, almost every time I go in the water. Well… all except the stingray that nailed me about a year ago. That wasn’t fun.

03/01/2008 07:08 AM by Michael Cole (CPG Tours)

Michael

Wow, that sounds exciting not the stingray but the seals and the dolphins, ever try to ride one of them?

03/01/2008 07:23 AM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Uh, no...I don't think I would try to ride one in the open ocean. As mellow as dolphin are, they can also be territorial. But I have had them come close enough that you almost touch them. And I once saw a picture of a guy who actually had a seal hop on his surfboard with him to take a little rest. It was pretty funny!

03/01/2008 07:48 AM by Michael Cole (CPG Tours)

Michael

That is great I would love to be in that position, it would probably scare the heck out of me.

Thanks for sharing your story.  Nature is wonderful.  My brother lives in Sparta and sometimes has similar stories.  I, with my 5 year old daughter at the time, were 5 feet away from a black bear while vacationing in the Poconos.  What an exciting and nerve racking occurrence!  Of course, I was the only one of the 3 that were scared.  My daughter didn't know what was going on as I grabbed her  under bother arms lifting her into the car (banging my knee on the console - ouch!) as Mr. Black Bear went waddling right past us. Dadump-dadump!  If people on a balcony didn't yell out to me to grab my daughter, she would have walked right accross the bear's path +  (hello-nice to meet you! face to face)

Today I was pulled over by a Police man. There was a bear on the road I just past and was flashing on coming traffic to slow down. The cop thought I was warning other drivers he was sitting on the side of the road.

Bear's are a beautiful animal to watch, just keep your distance and they will leave you alone.

05/12/2008 01:45 PM by Gary J Rocks (Sussex County Real Estate)

Hey big boy.  Are you flashing again?  Did you ever hear of Beaver Lake off rt. 23.  I think it is Franklin.  Are there bears there too?

05/12/2008 06:27 PM by Century 21 Showcase

When one decides to live in their habitate, one must accept their prescense.

This is very funny as it plays thru my own imagination . I lived in Lae Taho for some time , and this type of scenario is more common there than where I live now. Its amazing how secure we feel inside our houses wathcing outside.I Hope the bear came down and they all ran away happily ever after before ytour children got home from school.

Have you forgotten everything about the area? You use to live in the area heck your West Milford home is out in the boon docks, your tenants probably have them over for the weekends.
