A Hose is a Hose- Or not? Chelan Home Inspections

I performed a home inspection on a house not too long ago that suffered from some major water damage due to a washing machine supply line burst. Thousands of dollars of damage occurred along with some stress with dealing with the restoration company.

There are many homes in my home inspection service area that are used a vacation property and may be more vulnerable to these types of incidents.

Doing a little research I find that most standard hot or cold water supply lines on household washing machines are rated for 200 psi working pressure and 800 psi burst pressure.

I came across this product that claims to be tested to 1700 psi and comes with a 20 year warranty. These hoses are much stiffer that your standard hose and you may need a gooseneck adapter for an easier less stress connection.

If you have a vacation home this may be a worthwhile investment.  You can always turn off the water to the machines also (which I recommend to my clients purchasing vacation homes).

On another note, if you think your washer is filling slowly before you call a repair man in check to see if your hose or washing machine has a strainer on it. Many times these strainer can become clogged and effect the flow to your washing machine.

Donald,  I have never seen Floodchek" hoses on any washer that I have inspected but when I run into an issue I sure will bring it to the buyers attention. Thanks for posting. suggested

Vince,

Like I stated I found these when doing a little research. Like you I have never seen them in the real world.  But I would like to see them.

Good stuff Don.  I have never heard of Floorchek, always recommending the braided metal hoses to my clients.  I will look into it!

Jay, I think that is great advice. I am adding something to the general info section also. Once you see a home get destroyed from water damage you can never help but think about it.
