The Stillness of a Snowy Day in Oakville and Burlington Area, Ontario.

It's collecting on the garden door and turning the Burlington and Oakville regions of Ontario, Canada into a cosy, muffled world of whiteness again. Snow, glorious snow.

I've been home this week recovering from a nasty bug that I picked up well before Christmas. The past 4 weeks have seen a seemingly never ending cycle of thinking I am finally getting over it just to have it rear it's vicious head once more.
Monday I went to see the Doc as I wassnowy back road in Ontario feeling worse than ever and I knew I needed help.
After  4 days of antibiotics, I'm feeling like myself once more and can make plans to return to those winter activities that I love.

The Burlington and Oakville area is home to many beautiful, groomed cross-country ski trails for those adventurous souls who love to take winter's hand and dance wildly in it's arms, taking in all that it has to offer.

I like to get out and hike on the many trails that meander through the Halton Conservation Area parks and in winter I can be found gliding along on skis enjoying the peacefulness of the wintery landscapes.

Having grown up a northerner, I don't let winter get me down.

In my family we learned to skate before we had even mastered walking.  There are many beautiful areas to skate in the Burlington and Oakville areas.

My brother and his family have a penchant for skating on the outdoor skating rink at Bronte Creek Provincial Park, the breathtaking natural area that divides Oakville and Burlington. No matter how cold it is, he and Shanine and the kids don their skates and wooly hats and head out as often as they can and always come home rosy cheeked, singing and laughing.

No matter what your favourite winter activity might be, the Burlington and Oakville area has you covered.

Winter, glorious winter. I say, bring it on!

That's the spirit Jo, we might as well get out there and enjoy the winter, grumbling about it doesn't make it end any faster.

Hello Jo ... I hope you finally get over your bug and have the chance to go out and really enjoy what your surrounding areas have to offer. I was born and raised in the Midwest where we had the 4 seasons and sometimes I miss it but only for a short time.

Malcolm,

Going to be in your area this coming week for a number of days. Are you up to doing some cross-country skiing?

Kathy,

I didn't know they had dog sledding in Cannington too. There was a dog sled festival in Haliburton this past weekend. If I hadn't of been recovering from a bug, I would have gone up to the cottage and tried some dog sledding.

I hope you get enough snow too....

VB,

If I recall, the midwest really gets hammered with snow and cold. Here in southern Ontario we don't get too much. In fact this Monday it is going to be 9degC (guess you'll have to convert that to degF, however it is pretty warm for this time of the year).

Be well and enjoy your holiday,

Jo

Fred,

Take good care of yourself. Sounds like the vicious bug that is making it's rounds across Canada. My son in Whistler said everyone there had/has it too.

With me it lasted over 3 weeks and then turned into an infection so now on antibiotics.

Hope you are better soon,

Jo

Jo-Anne, sorry to hear about your battle with that nasty bug that was going around.

When I was younger I used to enjoy skating outside...there were a few really nice places in the Chicago area much like what you describe.

Hi Jo - you should be all better by now! amazing what antibiotics can do when used appropriately! Your photos are lovely - here in NW IN right now we have one day of snow and winter followed by a day of pre-spring like weather?  Mom used to say to me - be a weatherman - when i'd ask why she answered because they get paid whether they are wrong or right LOL so true.

have an awesome spring!

sincerely,

grace

Hi Jo-Anne

Growing up in the Great state of Michigan, I remember well the wintery days.

I really don't miss the snow now but as a child I loved the winter.

You need to post a little more.

Best, Clint McKie
