It's "Meme" time in Tennessee

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Shoreline New Hampshire & Maine

That's usually the way we start a football game in Tennessee but a little paraphrasing never hurt.

My "Memor" was Leigh Brown.

It's kinda tough to sit down and think of 5 things most people don't know about you that would interest them but I'll give it a try.

1.  I'm a former skydiver; my highest leap was from 16,000 feet over Lake Okeechobee in south Florida.  From 3 miles up you can do about a 75 second freefall; you also have a pretty good view in 360 degrees. All I remember seeing most of the way down was orange & grapefruit groves in 3 directions to the horizon and water in the other. I also remember thinking, WOW!, that's a LOT of oranges & grapefruits.

2.  At age 8 my mother wanted me to become a steel guitar player; I hated the lessons. A steel guitar is played flat on your lap or on a stand; they used to be real big with the original Grand Ole Oprey bands in Nashville. Mercifully she let me quit after about 2 years, my instructor finally convinced her my heart wasn't in it. I was never even close to this good.

3.  I went to school in Memphis back the University of Memphis was called Memphis State. Elvis was alive & well then; we walked by Graceland a couple of times and saw him riding around the grounds on his golf cart, of course we waved and he waved back.

4.  In the late 60s I was in the Air Force. I was a refueling specialist so I got to see some incredible aircraft close up. I was backup fuel specialist once when we launched an SR-71 "Blackbird" spyplane.

ST-71 Blackbird

This airplane was so classified & hush hush back then when it launched everyone not directly involved with its flight operations had to go indoors and weren't supposed to even look out the windows. It could fly at over Mach 3.3 at altitudes of over 85,000 feet. I believe it's still the fastest and highest flying airplane ever built.

5.  In the late 70s a buddy and I operated the first frozen yogurt shop in Knoxville. Aparently we were a little ahead of the curve with frozen yogurt and lost our....well, we lost. I still get mad every time I see a TCBY shop.

I'm tagging Tennessee Realtor Tori Stamps , Florida Realtor Paula Bean, and my Colorado Realtor pal Alicia Hagner as future victims.

Jim I am obsessed with the Blue Angels so now I might have to start stalking you. What an awesome experience!  As for yogurt, I think TCBY has hit the skids too no? So don't feel badly, I looked into it during the 80s and they required a 300k franchise fee! I bet you didn't have to pay anything like that! Thanks for helping us get to know you better : - )

Hey Carole, if you're into military aircraft you might like these photos of the super bowl of military airshows

My wife and I was lying on the beach at Pensacola Beach, Florida one morning several years ago and the Blue Angels passed in formation just offshore at very low altitude and all trailing smoke. It was a very, very impressive sight.

Curt Watson, who was a former fullback for the University of Tennessee flew with the Air Force's Thunderbirds during a tour in the Air Force. He drives a 737 for Fed Ex now.

Elaine my wife frowns on me jumping onto anything around the house although I do still enjoy a good nap on the sofa.

Jumping out of a plane is the only thing on my list of the wilder things I wanted to do in my life, but have not.  Still wonder if I actually would have had the nerve to take the plunge. Thank you for sharing

I was in 6th grade when Elvis died, moms crying everwhere!

My grandpa flew and my father worked on an aircraft carrier .Those photos are spectacular and I really enjoyed the link.

I want to sky dive and I know Lake Okeechobee very well! I grew up in Jupiter. Werent you afraid of landing on an aligator!

Leigh, you and all Elivs fans will love this story.

On his last concert tour to Knoxville he stayed at a Sheraton hotel my father in law managed; his entourage took up the whole top floor.

My father in law said on the morning after the concert and after he had left the hotel, there were over 40 women in his lobby waving money at him wanting to buy the sheets Elvis slept on.

If only he had had the good business sense to open his laundry we could have all been rich. ;-)

Laurie, once you leave the airplane skydiving is easy; gravity does most all the work.

I never was very good on my steel guitar because I hated it so; I havn't touched one in many, many years.

Jim....  I have bungee jumped twice before.... does this count?  lol

As Carole said, I also liked the Blue Angels and I got to see their show when I was in Texas. When I was young, I also built a lot of models when I was young. And a few of them were of planes.

I don't want to mention #5, but I am sure it does kill you from time to time.

Thanks for sharing and I am going to check out your link that you shared.
