Just
a quick note to everyone about agent safety.  The real estate industry is one of the few professions where you frequently find yourself alone with someone who could be classified as a complete stranger.  (Hopefully this doesn't come off as sexist...) I frequently think of the safety of our female agents when I speak with them about showing homes to buyers, going on listing appointments, or holding open houses.

Here are a couple tips that we share with our agents here at The Homefinding Center:

1. Meet the client at the office prior to going out with them alone.

2. If possible, get a copy of their drivers license (office policy when taking a client out for the first time)... the client will know their contact information is in the hands of someone at the office.

3. If possible, let someone else know where you're going and when you'll be back (do this so the client can hear your conversation).  You can do this in person, or by phone.

4.  Make sure you've called or emailed th
em at least once prior to going out with them.  (when they arrive to meet you, tell them you're going to plug in their number to your phone so you'll have it saved... after they give it to you and you've entered it... press dial.  When their phone rings... say, "oops" (you'll then know you have the right number, and the record of the call will be with the cellphone service provider.

5.  When in a home, always stay positioned closest to the exit (i.e. Let the client go into the bedrooms while you stay in the hallway or doorway).  The client should always be in front of you (in your field of view).
