If you've ever visited The Tomb Of The Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery you know the first unknown American to be interred there was a casualty of World War I. It was approved by Congress in 1921

Like many early American churches the Old Presbyterian Meeting House built in 1772 in Alexandria VA had a cemetery on church property.

On our first Sunday as new members back in 1980 we strolled through the cemetery after worship. We were surprised to find this Tomb Of The Unknown Revolutionary Soldier as well as the gravesite of Dr. James Craik who became George Washington's personal physician after he left the US Army in 1783.

I love learning about the history here in Northern Virginia, but sometimes it can get a little creepy too.

My mom and I used to visit New England quite a bit when I was growing up, loved to walk through the cemeteries and see the history of those there.

Karen, That is really cool!  I love history like this, and am glad that a soldier from the Revolutionary War was chosen to be remembered by the Children of the Revolution.  It is a cool thing, even if it isn't at Arlington!

Hello Karen,

So much history is re-lived by walking through cemetaries, our past must always be remembered.  Lovely blog, thank you!

Finding George Washington's physician....wow! If only they could talk and tell us about more history during that time.
