We all know that everyone isn't cut out to live in a condominium, but according to an article by Lisa Harris, Condominium Lifestyle Enjoys A Wide Appeal, there are a growing number of options for a number of different lifestyles.

According to the article, Margie Ingram said that, "You can buy a condo in most locations, from the city center to the suburbs...What attracts people the most is security, no property maintenance, and a real sense of community."

Many buyers are finding that the interiors of condos are quite comparable to the interiors of traditional homes. In that, again according to Ingram, "You will find granite counter-tops, marble floors, jetted tubs in the bath, top-end appliances in the kitchen..."These are many of the same amenities many buyers are looking for in homes today. As for outdoor space, many condos today have balconies or common areas.

In Birmingham, the downtown and Southside areas have traditionally had a number of condos, but being added are condos in historic buildings downtown and condos supporting a "village lifestyle" in Homewood and Mountain Brook. Ingram notes in these types of condos, "You're close to shops and your neighbors, and it feels like a small town..." The suburbs are starting to bring a "resort lifestyle, with swimming pools, tennis courts and landscaped grounds."

Dwight Sandlin of Signature Homes points out that , "There is a new interest in the "live-work" concept, which traditionally meant a shop on the ground floor and the owner living above... there is a growing market for "mixed use," with neighborhood businesses at street level and condominiums on the upper floors."

So, the condominium market is growing in appeal in the Birmingham Area, but what is available today?
