Friday's Fotos - Ice Storm 2012, Columbia River Gorge
The power's finally back on and the house is warming up after reaching 48 degrees overnight. The Columbia River Gorge, or more specifically, the towns of Hood River and Parkdale, have been hit with lovely freezing rain after three feet of snow in the days before that. The result is literally dozens of downed power lines, broken trees and blocked roads, like nothing we've seen in the 4 1/2 years we've lived here. We've lost all our fruit trees we planted two summers ago and the tops of many 60+ foot evergreens that bent under the weight of ice crusted snow then snapped. Giant limbs litter our yard, including these, the first one of which missed our son, Ben, by just 5 feet when it came crashing down. It continues to rain/snow with no break in the weather any time soon. This week we had half a day of school on Tuesday, but otherwise everything's been pretty much shut down.
