Ladies! Looking to enjoy a hike and make some new friends? On Sunday, January 22, come out for Ladies Trek: Blockhouse Point Conservation Park. If you want to hike but don't quite know where to go, come meet other women and hike some park trails together with a park naturalist. Hike lengths vary with the pace of each group. For this hike meet at the main parking lot at 14750 River Rd. in Darnestown. Ages 18 and up. Register at ParkPASS.org.

Ready for something different? On Monday, January 23, come out and learn traditional Scottish ballroom dancing. No partner required. Beginners welcome. Classes held Mondays, September to June. $55 per semester plus $45 for annual membership in Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Washington Branch. Fee supports events and insurance. Give in to your inner opera lover on Friday, January 27 from 1-2pm. Emerging pictures presents the Opera in Cinema series, which features landmark productions form classic to modern, starring some of today’s greatest voices from the most venerable opera houses across Europe. The spring series will feature productions of “Cendrillon,” “Il Trittico,” and “La Bohème.” Screenings will take place at the AFI Silver Theatre in downtown Silver Spring.
