How Am I? Check My Twitter Account!

We all know the power of social media and its importance for online presence. That said, are we so busy working every conceivable social network that if our own family and friends want to know how we are or what we’re up to they’d have to check our Face Book page or tweets?

Have we all but forgotten there’s a real world out there with living, breathing people, adventures to be experienced, places to be explored, people to met, places to see………in person? Or are we so busy telling everyone what we’re doing, that’s actually all we are really doing!

We live in an ever changing society and yes, we have to roll with it or be lost in the dust. However, to what extent?

When was the last time you took stock of what social media platforms are working for you..........and which ones aren’t. Do you investigate the newest and greatest social media site, or just jump on board because “everyone else is doing it.”

Just because everyone else is “doing it” doesn’t mean it’s worthy of your time or will work to bring you more business. The point is don’t get so bogged down trying to do it all that you become the epitome of mediocrity. No one is great at everything and you should narrow down the scope of your marketing efforts to what will get you to the top of page one on Google – after all, that's the goal!

I suggest that you take the time to evaluate what is working for you. Check your Google analytics to see where your business is coming from. Always ask new clients how they heard about you. Google yourself  and lastly, understand and work the social media accounts you do have – after all, it’s called “SOCIAL” media for a reason.

Lastly blogging on Active Rain has driven more traffic to my website and brought more closed business then all my other social media groups combined! Blogging works and I have the statistics to back it up!

I agree that AR is the best bang for your buck, and those other sites are great if you have the time to spend lurking around in hopes of meeting people.

My blogging accounted for 34% of my business in 2010 and 14% in 2011. This year is too young to calculate. But, blogging has been my most profitble marketing venture since I figured out how to do it!

Kristine, I'm definately NOT a follower! I make choices not always the right ones, but hope to learn as I go. I'm still learning and although AR is my favorite....I'm not sure its working all in my favor, but I've got more to try and do.

Kristine, we definitely should not continue doing things that don't produce anything or don't make sense. I use my Facebook account mostly to keep my name in the mind of people that I already know, not necessarily to solicit or expect business from it although I recently did receive a referral via FB.

Kristine,

These are some great points I've often pondered myself! I wonder if people are getting burned out with all the social media.

Great advice Kristine ~ Checking Google analytics and find out what is working and what isn't. It is silly to spend time tweeting if no one is reading what you tweet!! I always ask my new clients how they found me. That is so important.

Hope you are having a wonderful evening.

Kristine I completely agree! It's one of the reasons why we focus on certain social media areas, knowing they are our strengths and they have proven successful. We have gotten a LOT of client interest, inquiries and business from just those two sources so in 2012, we plan on making those sources even better.

Glad blogging on A/R is helping your business and I look forward to seeing more pictures of your beautifully staged homes in 2012!

Well said.  There is only so much time in the day and we are supposed to be working to live, not living to work, right?

Kristine, It's all about what works best for each of us. Besides referrals, our website brings us the largest amount of business. All social media may have it's place, but figuring what works best is what we are deciding about now...

Well said, Kristine.  I realized about a year ago that I was spending way to much time on FB.  I keep that to a limit now.  I'd much call a friend and see how they're doing.  Social media is great for business, but if it causes us to become a recluse seeking business, what did we gain?  Have a great week!

What? We're supposed to get leads and business from all of this? Lol. Well said Kristine - so far, it's blogging that I can say earned me a sale. I'm hoping for more in the future - obviously, but there is so much to do.

Other than that, most of my business has been referrals. Make it a great week my friend.  D

KG~As you well know, sometimes, I'm not even good with the PHONE! Sure loved this snappy, in-your-face blog and when you do these, it's always fun to get a snapshot of what you're thinking about. Been awhile since I stopped by and you and I both know that when BUSINESS calls, we have to put that BEFORE the blogging, but it is a "link" to it, that's for sure.

Busy week--even have a new lakefront listing that started today (gosh, I better blog about that, DUH!), and I hope to finally catch up with you via a nice long TALK (no tweet, or FB or whatever) next week.
