The Ants Have Invaded….No More PICNIK.

Today, while writing my 2012 Jan Blog Challenge and uploading photos into the free site PICNIK, I saw the new message posted.

www.KristinHamiltonBlog.com

I am going to show how easy it is to edit. Here is the picture.

Cropping it and enhancing the color and clarity.

I am loading a picture into the site.

Framing and adding text. I love this reflection image frame and it is now a free feature until site closes.

Here is the finished photograph ready to be inserted into my blog.

www.KristinHamiltonBlog.comThis site is wonderful and has helped teach me a lot about editing photos. It does so much more than the editing software loaded into my computer. I had used the free service as it met my needs but would certainly be willing to pay the annual fee to keep it.

There are two types of memberships so right now, we all get the upgraded features. That is a plus for 2 months. I am very sad though as I can edit 5 photos in 2-3 minutes.

Does any AR members have a suggestion??? Optional sites???

Hi Deborah,

I know, it is a real disappointment and I was so sad when I read it last night. The frame "Reflection Image" has always been a premium selection so now it is free for all. I have been using it elclusively since I found out. What are we going to do?

Hi Kristin - I've never used on-line photo editing, since I had started with Photoshop way back with version 1.0, but that's a pricey way to go with a steep learning curve. However, Photoshop Elements is inexpensive - I have seen it for $59, much easier to learn, and still very powerful. And if you're using an iPad or Mac, SnapSeed is an awesome editing app, and costs $5.99 for the iPad.

Google is EVIL. Everything you get for "FREE" comes with the high price of total invasion of privacy. I, after much thought and recent disheartening from them toss in a little research and canceling out all my gmail accts I use for personal. Its sick how these giants operate and maybe we dont live in a perfect world but I am not going to sit back and just enable and allow them when I have a choice...

Srry to rant... Peace

Hi Lloyd,

Well just as well that you did not start using it and get proficient and fall it love with it. Then it would be very upsetting to lose it. I may have to try my Cannon EOS editing software that I just got with my camera. But I really like Picnik. Sad....

Hi Dick,

I will check that software out because you are so right, Photoshop is extremely expensive. I guess I have 2 months to make a decision and get proficient. I just keep hoping Google will change their mind and keep Picnik alive!

Hi David,

I use gmail as I am told it is free of viruses but I use my KW account for business. I have heard that from others about Google too. I was so upset over all the publicity about the iPhone having a way to record all the sites you go to on the phone and able to track you that I ended up with the new Samsung Rocket Galaxy phone and it has a bigger screen so I do not have to put my reading glasses on. It is brand new and fast and I have been pleased. Even with my background, I do not like the idea of anyone recording my selected sites but..... I still use Google. They are so big and have bought some many other companies. I just can't understand why they would shut down our PICNIK site??? So confused?

Well that's a bummer.....guess it's on to another easy to use product.  Google is here to stay.....and it's also a bit like big brother knowing everything about everyone.

Kristin--Me, too, I am so sad and mad, too.  In the back of my mind I keep hoping that maybe they are teasing us or trying to entice us to buy a new programs for higher price.  I am going to wait and see as I don't think it's over.

Hi Anna,

I just downloaded the Google Picasso 3 program. It doesn't do anything more than the photo editing program, Microsoft picture manager that I already have but I do like how it brings the photos forward. I was looking for creative kit but ended up with Picasa 3 instead. Confused?

Hi Mary,

See my last comment to Anna, I do not like the Google option they are giving us. I have the same thought in the back of my head....this is a test and then they will say OK we will keep it open if everyone pays. I am agreeable to pay the $25 yr for the use of Picnik. I am sad, mad, and do not see any good alternatives right now!

Kristin - Not that probably will matter or do any good, I saw on Facebook a page that is asking for signatures to keep Picnik available.  I noted many Rainer's on there so I too went for it and signed up. Just FYI.  Probably time to drag out the ole Photoshop which takes longer than Picnik.  Ugh.

Hi John,

I am excited to hear that. I will go to facebook and sign it. I want to keep Picnik. I think some AR members think this is just some trick to get more interest and then charge everyone to keep it going. I would be willing to pay the annual fees.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Than,

I am so sad and last night I downloaded the Picasa from Google but no frames or stickers. Not nearly as nice so I may have to buy an editing software program. I may have one in my Cannon stuff so I need to check that out as well. So much to do and only so many hours in the day.
