Circa 1840

Huron, Ohio...a small close knit community on the Shores of Lake Erie. Close to the world famous Cedar Point Amusement Park and just a few minutes away from the ferry line that can whisk you away to the islands, marinas and fishing…… and swimming…. and waterparks….and….

We have a secret.........Huron boasts a small collection of homes built by the master craftsman, Joseph Lowry.

Joseph Lowry, at the age of 16 attended school in Ithaca, New York as an apprentice to the trade of carpentry and house builder. In 1828 he moved westward with his family to Huron county, Ohio. By the 1840's he had the qualifications of a master builder having built several churches, homes, schools, and stores in both Huron and Erie Counties.

Here is one of his showcase homes located on a private 1.6-acre parcel on the outskirts of town. The mature landscaping is surrounded by farm fields that enhance the ambiance of the setting.

                          Jeffries Rd.

The two-story home has 3 or 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths. It has been lovingly updated and restored by its current owners. The updated kitchen is the heart of the home. It has custom kitchencherry cabinetry, granite counters and a generous island. This opens to a comfortable seating area and has room for an additional eating space. The original hardwood floors in this area have been refinished and create a warm space for family or entertaining. Much of the original woodwork has been refinished and is intact throughout the home. It has become synonymous with quality, a signature of Joseph Lowry’s handiwork. Both upper and lower levels have solarium rooms to allow ample lighting to the spaces as well as allowing for increased airflow. Both roomssunporch are currently used as bedrooms. There are two full baths, one on each level. There is a walk up attic for storage that has the beautiful exposed original beams, and the partial deep basement houses the wood and gas furnace as well as the laundry area. Part of the original horseshoe walkway is still back porchintact at the front of the house, and an expansive covered back porch is perfect for that summertime iced tea or family gathering.

The 30x40 red barn has a cement floor with electric and an overhead door. It is spacious enough for several cars and would be a perfect workshop red barnspace. An original five sided "three holer" outhouse has been retained at the rear of the property as a conversation piece.

Allow me to show you this very special home.
