Gary, these are amazing photos.
Has it been long since you visited Veracruz Mexico?
Gary--Thanks for sharing the photos and facts about the castle/fort/museum. We saw a similar Spanish fort in Puerto Rico last winter. Makes me glad that I never had to spend a night in the dungeon.
Beautiful history kept withing these walls :) I'll be heading down to Mexico this year to celebrate a good friends wedding :) cannot wait :)
Gary, I love learning about new places and your photos really show us a lot. The next time I watch Romancing the Stone, I'll be looking for this.
Hi Gary, I really enjoyed this post and seeing and appreciating the wonderful photos. I saw the movie but obviuosly didn't remember it very well since I didn't recall the fort. :-)
HI Gary,We have to make a trip this year to Mexico, It really is the only place where there is so much history and culture, that we have not yet explored enough in the North America's Great story telling and Pictures Gary...
Gary: Thanks for taking me on your adventure with you! I need to put this on my bucket list!
Gary, It has been about 35 years since I explored the Castilo San Juan de Ulua, and it looks the same in your photos. Wonderful shots of a structure the Spaniards built to last.
Kathy, Thank you. I'm glad you remember the scenes -- it is a great movie.
June, Thank you. That photo is one of my favorites too. And. the movie is an easy one to remember -- great cast, lots of action and interesting locations.
Patty, Thank you. It has been way too long since I visited Veracruz -- about two years. I love that city and the areas near it.
Laura, There really is a lot of history. You will enjoy Mexico. Let me know where you will be and I will try to think of things that you should see and do.
Juli, it is fun to learn about other places and I'm glad you enjoyed my photos.
William, Thank you. That movie was so packed with locations and exciting things to see that I bet most people don't remember the fort.
Peter & Linda, You will love exploring Mexico. If you have any questions about what to see or do, let me know. I'm also looking forward to seeing your pictures after you return.
Joni, I'm glad you enjoyed the adventure --it is a great addition to a bucket list.
Marge, Thank you. I really enjoyed talking about Veracruz with you today -- so many people only know of the tourist areas and Mexico City.
Gary - cool photos. Reminded me fo the Castillo de San Marcos, which is also a museum at this time. Some overall resemblance...
Jon, Thank you. I had forgotten about the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, FL. I'm glad you mentioned it -- it would be much easier for most of our members to visit and most of the old Spanish fortresses have similar styles.
Gary - also, what I find interesting about the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine is that it has never been taken by the enemy. In one instance it was close to it when French armada came this way, but the hurricane destroyed it.
