Gung Hai Fat Choy!

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

This morning we were greeted by a few of our own (Left to right: Mike Stern, Steve Molitor, Steven Sims and Greg Schneider) making omelettes made to order for a good start to Chinese new years.

Gung Hai Fat Choy

This is the year of the dragon.

People who are born in the year of the dragon share certain characteristics according to Chinese tradition.  They are considered innovative, and enterprising.  Somewhat flexible yet, self-assured and brave.  Passionate, and a bit conceited and tactless.  Scrutinizing and a little quick-tempered.

In addition to being the year of the dragon, this particular year (2012) is considered the year of the WATER dragon... which brings with it some additional modifying characteristics.  Water has a calming effect on the Dragon's temperament and allows the dragon to redirect his enthusiasm and more considerate.  The Water Dragon is better equipped to consider before action and invokes the art of patience into an otherwise powerful icon.

All of this bodes well for a passionate, patient and powerful year.  Gung Hai Fat Choy!

How fun!!!  It is great that you could celebrate the Chinese New Year.  Food makes it even better!

Home is where the hearth is.

Debb - I was not aware of those traditions.

Karen - that's a nice way to start the day, too.

Doug - no drooling allowed.

Brian - I love that... "L'Shanah Gung Hei Fat Choy!"... very nice amagamation.

Joy - food makes everything better.  Food is the basis of every Jewish holiday... "they tried to kill us... they failed... let's eat!"

I heard a little snippet on the radio this morning - apparently, despite severe controls on population growth in China, they expect a little boomlet because this is considered a good year to be born.

Yummy!  I like Debb's comment about adopting Asian American customs ... especially the part about giving your children money for the future.  Hope my Mom is reading this :)

P.S.  Did you weigh yourself after you had your omelette?  Your number changed back to 3 ... just sayin' :)

Weekends are the worst!!  I can't even count how many calories I consumed yesterday while out with friends watching both games.  Back on my diet today :)  Hang in there ... you're doing great!

Home is where the hearth is.

Carie - and being served omelettes this morning didn't help.

Cynthia - one of them (I won't tell you which one) was a chef at a major hotel chain, back in the day.

Gung hay fat choy to you too Alan! I hope you enjoyed your breakfast!

We've been to two Chinese celebrations thia past weekend, one with our kung fu club with the Jing Ying Chinese cultural association complete with Lion Dancers and martial arts demos. The other one was far more quiet, but still special, to celebrate not only Chinese New Year but Dave's dad getting out of hospital! Here's to a brand new Year (of the Dragon) and it's endless possibilites!

I'm not sure what Gung Hai Fat Choy means but if it's something polite, then back at you Alan.

If it's something to eat, I'll try one.

Thanks for the information on the Chinese New Year. I do know one place in the USA the Chinese like to celebrate and that is Las Vegas. They party hard in Vegas this week.
