Aventura is a city located in northeastern Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 25,267. Most of what would later become the city of Aventura was planned during the 1970s by Turnberry International as a high-rise residential area, and some of Miami's tallest Condominium towers are located there. Aventura is also home to Aventura Mall, also developed and owned by Turnberry. The enormous success of the mall encouraged explosive growth in the area, and in 1995, the City of Aventura was incorporated.

The city Aventura is located at 25°57′52″N, 80°8′9″W (25.964345, -80.135818).GR1According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²). 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) 
of it is water. The total area is 23.08% water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 25,267 people, 14,000 households, and 6,691 families residing in the city. The population density is 3,613.2/km² (9,344.7/mi²). There are 20,020 housing units at an average density of 2,862.9/km² (7,404.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.78% White, 1.70% African American, 0.07% Native American, 1.22% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 1.77% from Two or more races. 20.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 14,000 households out of which 11.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.6% are married couples living together, 6.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 52.2% are non-families. 45.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.79 and the average family size is 2.45.
In the city the population is spread out with 10.1% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 35.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 53 years. For every 100 females there are 80.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $44,526, and the median income for a family is $59,507. Males have a median income of $50,791 versus $37,682 for females. The per capita income for the city is $41,092. 9.1% of the population and 5.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.5% of those under the age of 18 and 8.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
