Chicago got hit with a real strong rain storm last night. At 4:00 p.m. yesterday, we had snow about 8" high and by midnight we had puddles at our front doors.
One of the missed items on home ownership is protecting your home and checking our roof after a rain storm. Why? A branch could hit the roof and damage the shingles and cause deterioration faster then you can blink. One of the items of the list to maintain your home is to always make sure that the integrity of your home is kept safe to minimize the high cost of repair due to neglect and improper maintenance and/or inspection/repair.
One of the areas missed in most homes is the pitch of the bottom frame and the assurance that no water flows into the home but away from the home.
As one can see, the window on the right is not properly framed and when it rains, there are issues with water.
One should always check after a rain or snow storm to see if there are any changes in the roofline.
To neglect and not address, just like our health, the situation only gets worst and in the end, it costs us time and money.
