SEOing is new to me and I will share some of the simple techniques that are working for me. I would love your input as well! More is better!
First, start with a baseline. How good is your website right now? A Keller Williams Webinar on SEOing turned me on to marketing.grader.com. It will score your site on a scale of 1-100. Mind you, it is humbling and I have a long way to go. They also give tips for making it better.
Second, since link-backs are so important, do the easy ones first, Google+, LinkdedIn, your Craigslist ads, your AR blog and other peoples blogs.
Spend some time with the google keyword tool (search for it with those words and it will come up for you). For example, Salida Co Real Estate is the highest clicked on phrase in my area (we don't have many longtail keywords like 3 bedroom homes in Salida CO). I use that phrase as my link and then I then send them not to my homepage but to a search of Salida Homes. That is also called inbound anchor text...when the link has a good keyword phrase for the link to be clicked on.
1. Have about 50% of the links go to your website's firstpage and 50% going elsewhere. I have heard this said many ways, including never send them to the first page, but I am still playing with it.
2. Find blogs in your area that you can comment on. In the comment, use your website address as part of your name/signature.
3. In Craigslist, link back to the actual page where the search is so they don't have to find it.
Paula - I subscribe to the Hubspot emails and download most of their white papers. I was actually pleased to see my blog got a 50% rating. I hadn't used their scoring system before, so this post isn't just for newbies. Thank you.
Good job Paula. Do know that comments on Active Rain are not searchable and it is against community policy to include the kind of link you are suggesting in comments. The rest of your suggestions are great.
It is a never ending challenge and once you learn something they change it next week, or last week. Fun, though. Off to have that site test my website!
