Another Great Thing About Gmail!!

Another great thing about Gmail!!

Do you find yourself typing the same emails over and over again? If you are like me sometime down the road I wrote some and saved them, whether in Word, Google Docs,etc...
Melissa McKinney
But then you still have to go get them cut and paste them into your email! That's better then retyping them but something caught my eye today... It has probably been there all along but like so many other things it is right under our noses but we don't see it!!

Right above where we type our messages there is a little line that says “canned response” so I clicked on it and it gives you a few options, save, insert or delete.

Light bulb came on!!

So I went to retrieve one of my “canned responses” and brought it into my Gmail and pasted it into the body of the email and then I clicked “canned response” again and this time I clicked “new canned response” under the “save” option.  I named it what I wanted to and clicked out of that window.
Canned
Went back to compose mail and clicked “canned response” again and this time in the drop down menu was my response, clicked on it and in a instant it was in the body and ready to go!!
light

Love it when the “light bulb” comes on!!

Great tip!  I switched ALL my office functions (email, calendar, notes, docs) over to Gmail/Google.  I will definitely put this tip to good use!

Thanks for sharing such a great tip. I had not seen that was doing the cut and paste thing you mentioned. Off to set up a few responses...

Hey Melissa, very cool!  I immediately looked up how to do this in Outlook since that what I rely on for e-mail.  It turns out you can do it there too, which I had not realized.  I hope you don't mind the link, but in case anyone wants to learn how, you can read this:  http://lifehacker.com/5031083/save-time-and-typing-with-outlook-2007s-quick-parts

Thanks for the tip!

I use google calendar and docs (which is ideal with my droid)... I've been hesitant about switching to gmail because of learning curve.  I've used Outlook for so long, it's second nature.

But I know if I would just take a look at gmail, I'd love it.  So you've given me another reason to make the switch.

Melissa:

I like gmail but haven't explored it as much as I should.  I never even notice canned responses on gmail.  Thanks for the heads up.

Excellent tips.  Hopefully the words "canned reponse" don't show up in the email you actually send.

I have a gmail account but don't really use it.  I'm stuck in the Outlook dark ages.  My husband just transfered everything over to gmail - I use so many other google things though that it's probably a good move, I'm just scared of something different. -Kasey

Thanks for the lesson about Gmail, yet as some have stated, I'm also using Outlook and it's features are integrated with MS Office, so switching primary email addresses would be challenging. I'll begin using my Gmail address to send canned email responses.
