Accidental SEO: I must be doing SOMETHING right! But What???

Yesterday I posted about the Challenge I'm completing that requires writing 2 posts about SEO.
I'm supposed to TEACH YOU SOMETHING I DID TO INCREASE my SEO.

Yesterday I told you about the BEST thing I did to increase my search engine visibility, and that was to Join ActiveRain and become a RAINMAKER.

STEP 1) Join ActiveRain! Then become a RainMaker!

   PLUS

Today, I'm going to tell you, that anything else besides Step 1 above that I've done to increase my SEO has been PURE LUCK! I managed to increase my SEO purely by accident. Following are the things I've done because I HOPED they would help. I have no idea which ones worked, but I think they ALL have helped.

Step 2)  My Profile identity line:

(Cheryl Dickson - Affordable Inspections ASAP (www.GrandJunctionHomeInspection.com)

This line is automatically added by ActiveRain on everything I do, Posts AND Comments. The content in that line is VERY IMPORTANT! It has my name, My Business name, and my Website. I need to add my City as well.

I THINK this line plays a major role in my SEO, so make sure you have Name, Business Name, City, and WebSite.

It shows up on EVERYTHING you do. You can edit it by going to

  • My HOME in the top right,
  • Then Profile (edit) on the Left side
  • Then edit your FIRST, LAST, and COMPANY NAME.

What You put in those 3 boxes is your Profile ID.  It shows on ALL POSTS and COMMENTS.

 Step 3)  My  SIGNATURE:

Member of the Grand Junction Area Realtor's Association

Mesa County Home Inspector

The signature is on EVERY POST you write.
The CONTENT of your signature is very IMPORTANT.
(I think)

Make sure you have

  • YOUR NAME
  • Business Name
  • Website
  • City and your SERVICE: (Grand Junction Home Inspector)

I would also suggest adding your email and phone number, and probably your county, or other tag type search phrase.

Many of you use a PICTURE of your Name or company. That WILL not show up for SEO, it MUST be in TEXT not a picture of the text.

Affordable Inspections ASAP Grand Junction

So if you want your logo, also SPELL IT OUT in TEXT.

There are ways of making your PICTURES useful for SEO. For more info on that, PLEASE see this OUTSTANDING post by Tom Arstingstall.

Improve Your SEO Quickly With Photos in Your Posts

Step 4)  Use TAGS and Key Phrases or words when posting.

TRY to use key search phrases in the Title to your post, and the same ones in the body of the post and again in your tags when submitting the post. Even if you have to list them at the end of your post in a group at the bottom. (I THINK it helps) This is why I have my signature say:

Member of the Grand Junction Area Realtor's Association
Grand Junction Home Inspector
Grand Junction Home Inspection
Mesa County Home Inspector

^^^Try to use these ^^^ type of phrases in your tags on posts. (with YOUR city and County)

Step 5) POST LINKS to your PREVIOUS POSTS, I KNOW this one is giving me GOOGLE JUICE!!!

Cheryl~Good job, missy! You taught me a couple of new things, and I'm actually going to *bookmark* this and go and find Tom's blog later (when I have a clear head in the BEGINNING OF THE DAY, not at the end of it like now!)

Good stuff Cheryl.   I'm going to add to my tag line pretty soon.  I see John up there above me has already taken the plunge.  These guys from the Q really know what's going on.   I think once you add this to your profile line, it will reflect back on all past blogs and comments, just like when you change a photo.

Hi John! I think I copied the type of content of your Profile identity line. LOL!  I made mine like you have yours! Except I need to go back and add my city. Have a great evening with D&D! (Debbie and Dixie)

Thanks Doug! It seemed to have gone back to the beginning on all of mine. I noticed the day I did it, my google search showed alot more hits.

Great post and I will head over to Tom's post about the images. You can SEO an image as long as you tell Google what the image is about in the alt tag or description. I came over from Vince's reblog :)

Thanks Tammy! I've been hanging out on your blog recently, and have learned so much! I need to TAKE THE TIME to do all of the things you've shared with us. You really know this stuff! I think I'll go back and edit a few of my localism posts to what you've give as suggestions, so I get the google juice I need from them.

Curtis, this is your Profile identity line: Curtis Van Carter (Coldwell Banker Brokers of the Valley)

It shows up on EVERYTHING you do. You can edit it by going to

  • My HOME in the top right,
  • Then Profile (edit) on the Left side
  • Then edit your FIRST, LAST, and Company name.

What You put in those 3 boxes is your Profile ID from then on. Folks are SQUEEZING everyting they can in those 3 boxes!!! Just look at everyone's names in gray, in the COMMENT sections on posts. John the Q man is an excellent example!

I need to work on the SEO stuff and adding links - I like the "previous posts" thing in the signature..I should do that.  Plus a gazillion other things...I'm slowly, slowly learning. -Kasey

Kasey, I'm told that putting links to your Previous Posts really helps. (MAKE SURE they OPEN IN A NEW WINDOW.) It's the last thing I add at the bottom of my posts, before the signature. I know it has gotten me additional comments on my posts for sure as an added bonus. I need to thin mine out though, it's getting a tad long! LOL!
