Hint: Smacking of the sea or nautical life, brunch, or crude language,
If you're looking for a nice restaurant where you can enjoy waterfront views, it's Salty's on the Columbia River. Having just purchased a floating home not too far away (read my blog post about it), my hubby and I thought we'd go check it out for lunch. The day was rainy (we ARE in Portland in winter after all) but we enjoyed a window view. In the summer, you can enjoy the outside deck watching the boaters go by. If you go, I can personally say the service we had was excellent, my lunch of clam chowder soup and Blackened Salmon was delicious. They also have killer homemade chips to nosh on while you wait.
Now, about those huge nutcrackers. This one is called "White Christmas" and was one of two sitting outside on the deck. Here is a list of all of the nutcrackers and their artists. which are spread out through their three locations..two in Washington State and the one here in Portland. Salty's is one of those places that you come for special occasions, or after a day on the water.
