It was a rainy day in The Big Apple, and I managed to find a big bunch of sunshine named Mitchell Hall, a favorite Rainer who gives me blog envy - he gets to write about the market in New York City, my old home!  He gets to list and sell coops in all of those fabulous buildings along Central Park West that I only see in movies!

Mitchell has blogged about Hotel des Artistes, the old home of Rudolph Valentino.  As part of his Landmark Living series, he's also written about The Ansonia, and The Dakota, where John Lennon lived and was shot.

We met at his Coldwell Banker office in an historic building on Columbus Avenue and 76th Street, and walked to a little Italian cafe that only a real New Yorker would know about.  And then we had a delightful lunch of pesto and talk about our real estate markets.

When Washington agents hear about how they do things in New York, we wonder - can it really work that way?  And it does.

The agents don't write offers, lawyers do.  But the agents do negotiate the terms that go into them.

The Multiple Listing Service doesn't work like ours in DC where everyone participates or else, but the agents do manage to communicate with each other about inventory.

Mitchell passes the fun test.  He's a mensch!  And anyone I know who is moving to New York is going to go there with Mitchell's name and phone number!

And this is one of the things that is so much fun about blogging on Active Rain!  You go to a city where a favorite blogger lives, meet them for a fun lunch and reinforce your original impression that they are in fact as terrific as the blogs they write!  It makes this silly addiction totally worthwhile!

I loke finding out how business is done in other areas.  The best thing is that we also get to know the people in the other areas.  Such a nice lunch you had!

Having enjoyed Mitchells posts as well, it's clear that the class act that shows up in his postings is quite genuine- lucky New York City!

Good morning Pat, I had loads of fun with you yesterday. My long lost friend! It feels like I've known you for years. Thanks for the nice post. I see you're a mobile blogger now.

Patricia, it is awesome to be able to write first hand about properties that we see on movies all the time.

Patricia -If you can get off at Princeton Junction on your way to DC - you can meet me. It's fun to meet in person someone, who you see "behind the blog".

Patricia, how nice that you could take the time to go to NYC and meet a fellow Realtor to boot!  Sounds like a great time.  We stayed at the Essex Hotel when we were in NYC a few years ago...it was directly across the street from Central Park.  Is that hotel still around?  It was pretty pricy (in my opinion)...we paid $750 for 2 nights.

I love hearing how business is done in different parts of the country, it challenges me to rethink what I consider "standard".

What a cool venture to head up to New York a place I will visit one day and to go there by train on top of it all. How long did you end up staying?
