This morning I posted on my Facebook fan page about focusing on a niche market. Some of the contributors to this post agreed while some disagreed. This was my last comment on this issue.

 "

I am not saying that you need to completely block off all types of businesses if they come. If you service a farm area and that's your niche and you help a client there and this client wishes to move to another area, it doesn't mean you would not help this client out. When you come into real estate, you are either working buyers or working listings. Have knowledge of everything but pick your area of specialization. Listing agents in my opinion control the industry. If you are all over the map, nobody sees your strengths because you are all over the place. Some of my moneymaker clients have picked an area to specialize in and have had great success with that. This does not mean they don't take other opportunities when they come along. A listing agent has more opportunities because they are aggressive and they go looking for business. A buyers agent always waits for business to come to them. With a listing agent, you are in control of your income because the more you work a farm area, the more likely you are to get qualified business but with a buyers agent you are dependent on who comes to look for your business."- Gabrielle Jeans
