Notice sent out today! One of the posts I did earlier included a video explanation of a Google privacy suggestions. Sort of a tongue in cheek post to be fair … Let’s hope that this new set will be more useful and more simple to use!

 


Open a gmail account and open the door to adventure! In previous posts, I have profiled the special labs (#1 - #2 - #3 - #4 ) offered within gmail. You will be amazed by the wonderful extra features and the creativity those features demonstrate!

Once you have a gmail account, you may set up your own YouTube channel. It is really easy - really easy but cannot be done without the gmail address. You should remember one important detail though about the YouTube account - you cannot change the gmail address associated with it. SOOO - choose carefully!

Photos anyone?  A very simple to use and very enjoyable photo program, picnik, was purchased by Google and now will be shut down. Picasa 3.9 added many picnik features. In the meantime, anyone may use www.picnik.com at the Premium level for free from now until it ends.  All photos uploaded there will be available for download to one’s own photo collection before picnik closes shop. Try picnik soon when you have a post needing photos - EASY to make collages there! Easy to insert captions there! Then when you move to Picasa - you will know a little bit of how to use the features integrated from picnik.

Lynn~I don't even know if I have a gmail account, silly me, but I do have a YouTube account or whatever...it's all still new. But, with PicNik, I think you want to zipfile your pictures....it tells you to do that on the page, when you go to it.

You know darned well, I'm gonna MISS PicNik. Craig Daniels has some classes and some ideas about his favorite Picasa....he's an excellent teacher with this stuff.

Lynn- thank you !  I get these notices and try to read them and walk away never sure if I should be worried or feel like I just wasted a few minutes of my time. I've been a big time user of Picnik so need to make sure I've downloaded everything.. which come to think of it.. I usually end up downloading it back to Picasa.

Lynn, We just received the change to the site and tried to read it all, but saved it for future reference. Tried using Picasa 3.9 but haven't gotten the hang of it yet...will try again and will also try some of the others that we haven't used before ~ nice info though on google stuff!

Hi Lynn. I found out quickly about not being able to change my YouTube Channel. That's why I now have two different Youtube accounts with two different email accounts. I had previously opened a YouTube account long before I got my gmail account, and I could not merge the two of them. Just downloaded that Picasa 3.9 version the other day when Craig Daniels posted about it. Thanks for sharing.

KATHY - Craig Daniels assures us that Picasa will be absorbing the best of picnik.

MICHELLE - SO many things I love about gmail. All my company email goes there and gmail allows me to answer as if it were from the company website! I use the DRAFT section as a filing cabinet - I could go on and on. You are welcome to check out the extra features in the links I provided above.

I was very sad to hear that Picnik is being shut down. As you mentioned the features will live on in Picasa and actually in Google+ . My dilema is that I don't like Picasa (I might be the only one) and with google + I have to deal with all sorts of other functions that I DON'T want to deal with . Fotoflexer is my next option. Every once in a while less features is more. Just photos...that's great.
