So, you live in Las Vegas and you can't get into the holiday spirit because you miss the snow.  Well, now you can go play in the snow at the Henderson Winterfest Celebration.  It will be a manufactured winter wonderland at the Henderson Events Plaza 200 S. Water St.

There will be winter activities, live entertainment and folk art booths.  The events will run from December 6 -9.  The Henderson Civic Orchestra will be giving a free performance on December 6 at 7PM.

On December 7 at 6pm, there will be the official tree lighting and an award ceremony for the Holiday Home Decorations contest and Canstruction.  This is a competition where local architects build structures out of canned goods.  After the season is over, the canned goods get donated to local food banks.

On December 8 and 9 there will be ice skating, a petting zoo, carolers,  a snow play area and so much more.  Saturday at 10AM there will be a children's parade, with the U.S. Marines as the grand marshalls.  Both days, there will be a performance of  "A Christmas Carol".

For a complete list of activities, check out the schedule here.

Hi Roberta, it looks like there's a lot of fun to be had! I'm not familiar at all with Vegas weather; does it get cold in the winter? I usually am wearing shorts here on Christmas and I'm cooking Christmas dinner! LOL

Linda:  It does get cold here in the winter.  It can go down to freezing, at night, in Dec and Jan but it is usually sunny and warm during the day.  It is never warm enough for me, I am cold if it is under 90 degrees!

ROBERTA:  Nice localism post, and very informative.  I always wondered how people in warm weather cities made it feel like the holidays.  Being from the Northeast, I have grown accustomed to having a chill in the air to make it feel like a holiday.  Good to see that others can get the winter feeling too.

Adam: Thanks.  I actually am able to get in the holiday spirit more here than I did when I was back east.  I was miserable in the cold weather and didn't even want to leave my house.  Here, I can get out and enjoy all the festivities.

Roberta - This is a wonderful post!  I have lived in Henderson and in Las Vegas for over 10 years and have never heard of this!  It's fantastic!

Too bad I'll be back in the midwest with family that week!
