Saturday, January 28 at noon, experience the rich culture of the Chinese Lunar New Year at Lakeforest Mall! Come out for the opening ceremony; view the beautiful decorations and exhibits. Entertainment and activities will take place over two weekends, January 28 & 29 and February 4 & 5 from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Live entertainment at Center Court includes traditional lion and dragon dances, folk dances, and martial arts demonstrations.

Attention boys and girls, ages 6-14! For nearly 20 years, the Montgomery Village Sports Association Lacrosse Program has been successfully sending its male and female alumnae to both local high school and college lacrosse programs. If you’d like to learn to play lacrosse please come to MVSA Lacrosse RegistrationSunday January 29 at Lake Marion Community Center in Montgomery Village from 11am to 2pm. The Kensington Park MOMS Club (a national support group for mothers who primarily stay home with their children) invites moms and their children to join them for their Monthly Meet and Greet on Monday, January 30, 10:30am at the Kensington Park Library (basement community room). We will have a presentation by professional organizer Patricia Masi, owner of Pristine Living. Patricia will cover issues relevant to running a busy household with growing kids, such as tips and tricks for organizing baby and play spaces and storage solutions. She'll also provide advice about teaching kids to become organized. We’ll have toys and a small craft to keep the kids busy. The MOMS club is open to moms whose children are zoned to attend Garrett Park ES and Kensington Parkwood ES. Tony Award-winning actress Alice Ripley will be visiting Albert Einstein High School, along with Broadway vocalists Darius De Haas and Capathia Jenkins, on Tuesday, January 31 at 7:00 pm. ArtSpeak! is a program that brings established Broadway talent to local school communities for an evening of performance and informative interviews. Alice Ripley won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her searing portrayal of a troubled housewife in NEXT TO NORMAL. Darius De Haas was a member of the Broadway companies of RENT, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN and CAROUSEL, and the film version of CHICAGO. Capathia Jenkins appeared in CAROLINE OR CHANGE and MARTIN SHORT: FAME BECOMES ME. The program is free and open to the public -- it is geared to students of all ages, especially high school students.

Every time you sit down to create your masterpiece, you get writer’s block. It's time to Discover Yourself as a Fiction Writer! This class on Wednesday, February 1 from 7-9pm at Montgomery College is for that budding novelist inside you who just needs a chance to get started. Find your voice, your category, your talent. Thursday, February 2 is Groundhog Day! Celebrate our whimsical weather-forecasting friend with stories, songs, coloring pages, and a groundhog craft. The Montgomery County Plein Air Artists (MCPAA) will exhibit their works at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation (RRUUC) in Bethesda, during the month of February 2012. The term 'en Plein air' originated with Monet and refers to the fact that the art works were painted outdoors. The art show, titled 'Preserving Our Sense of Place and Time,' will exhibit works that are available for purchase. The exhibit is free and open to the public at 6301 River Road, Bethesda.
