I linked to a few posts on my real estate internet marketing blog, and by far the bulk of the ensuing discussion from ActiveRain folks ended up being about duplicate content -- posting one thing on your own blog in the hope that the search algorithms will love you, then posting either exactly the same thing or a version of it here on ActiveRain, typing for points.

Now the implications of that didn't dawn on me until just now, when I was modifying a post I wrote so I could put it up here as well, and I realized that I was a doing just what my colleagues were doing:  phoning it in.

The amount of refried content here must really be amazing.  I'm sure in most cases it's not reworked much, but copied whole cloth.

I suppose folks have always done that to one degree or another.  That's what article syndication is all about.

I sometimes think the 2.0 in Web 2.0 stands for the average number of times an article about how many foreclosures with red ceilings there are in western Mobile Alabama can be copied and pasted.
