Meme Me Me...About Me

By
Real Estate Agent

Yesterday Jessica Hughes memed me. I was away from a computer all day attending Hanukkah and Christmas parties. It's all part of the first Active Rain Meme.  I'm supposed to tell you 5 things about myself that you don't know and then meme 3 others.

1.     This one still raises eyebrows: I attended Woodstock the Music Festival at age 12. No my parents weren't hippies. Far from it. They sent my sister, brother and myself to camp in the Poconos. They went on vacation to Hawaii. The traditional camp trip was to go to the Tanglewood Music festival in The Berkshires. Some one at the camp had the idea to go to Woodstock since the farm was only about 30 minutes away. It hit the news even in Hawaii, my parents, grandparents and every kids parents were calling the camp to get their kids out of there. Needless to say the New York State Thruway was closed so we stayed for 2 days.

2.     When I was 5 my Uncle ran for Mayor of New York City. I remember the campaign. Politics was quite      different in those days. He lost the mayoral race but was elected Attorney General of New York State in landslide elections for the next 22 years. He was a beloved Republican in a Democratic State.

3.     In my previous life I worked in the Motion Picture and Television Industry. During the 80's I was The Director of Sales and Marketing for The Hollywood Reporter. I won't bore you by dropping names of all the movie stars and celebrities I've met except to say the bigger they are or were the nicer they are. On a business trip to Washington D.C. for the NATO awards dinner (not the North Atlantic Treaty Organization but The National Association of Theatre Owners, I was invited to the White House and met President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan. Reagan had a long history with The Hollywood Reporter. The founder and Editor of the paper Bill Wilkerson was quite the Conservative and wrote a right wing column every day. Ronald Reagan was a liberal Union leader. He was President of (SAG) the Screen Actors Guild and wrote quite a few Letters to The Editor. While at The White House a top aid to The President  really wanted to attend our star studded dinner. I pulled some strings and was able to get another ticket. I sold the cover of The Special NATO Issue of The Hollywood Reporter to the NATO Star of the Year Arnold Schwarzenegger.

4.     10 years later I was The Associate Producer of a documentary film about the History of New York Television that aired on PBS and won an EMMY. A few months later I was laid off.

5.     In 2005 I sold my apartment to my investor client. He bid on two others in the building unsuccessfully. There was an inventory shortage. Always looking out for my clients I sold him my apartment and I am now renting it back from him.

I'm tagging Connie Pepenella, David Knudsen and Tim Maitski.

LOL Mitchell ~ I bet your parents were freaked with you being at Woodstock at age 12!  What an experience for you.  I took two of my kids for the 25 year reunion in the 1990's.  They had a great time and will always remember it.  For me, well I enjoyed the experience but would never go out of my way to do it again!

Hi Mitchell, back then no cell phones either so I can imagine the creative thoughts going through your parents' heads. lol  Are you still in touch with Ron Reagan? I remember him being sort of a breath of fresh air during the Reagan Presidency (sorry Brian Brady lol).

It's also refreshing to hear you say good things about 'the more famous' people you encountered in Hollywood. You have had an exciting life IMHO, and all that producing and video work, well, it has to serve you well now that you are the 'Go To' Realtor® for Manhattan.  Very cool. And I would say that is going above and beyond for your clients, selling your apartment!

KK. My father is 83 and still brings up the hippy camp he sent us too. lol

Carole. I was referring to President Reagan. I have found the really big stars are very nice. The ones that think they are big have entourages and are not so nice. I can name names. lol

Hi Mitchell,

I knew your meme would be interesting and you didn't dissapoint.

I can't believe you sold your flat to your investor.  He must have made you an offer you couldn't refuse.

Mitchell......  it took me long enough to come back to this. I had planned on commenting 2 days ago. Time flys.

Anyhoo....   WOW.....   talk about some accomplishments. I love the Woodstock one.  And I will agree with Kristal, what an experience that had to be. But age 12?  Too bad it wasn't like 14 or 15, when you can remember even more.

So, the motion picture industry?  Cool...  I took a film study class in high school and had to make a movie. Well, I did everything last minute and even though it was rushed, my teacher at the time told me it was one of the better ones that he had seen in his 14 years or so. And I have heard that the bigger they are, for the most part, they are nicer. And by reading this part, you just brought back some memories.

Last.....  in regards to your apartment, I guess you just proved that some of us go the extra mile.   ;o)

Overall, thanks for sharing.

Jeff

Thanks for the comments. I'm really behind on my blog reading. I have to get to more meme's. When I got meme'd, I thought Oh no -not today I'm so busy. The hardest part for me is the linking back to other people. For some reason sometimes when I go to look for their url to link I move off the page where I'm writing the blog and the whole blog disapears and I have to start over.

Mitchell, I guess Jeff must have had  rough years at 12 and 11 - as for me I can remember everything about those two years and not necessarily about this year; what does that say ? LOL

Carole, It is scary. I have a really good long term memory and bad short term memory. I hate to say this, but my father remembers 1940 WWII but can't remember if he had lunch. He has mild dimentia. So Jeff won't get it - we will. We have to keep our minds active. Short term memory loss is the first sign.

Jeff, I found you, I think there were already 65 comments on your meme. wow.

I'm on my way to work, just added 'stop at drugstore for ginko balboa pills' to my errand list. Mental list; hopefully I will remember it : -)

I had to quckly google it phew lol.  Although I did spell it wrong so I forgot how to spell it!  Ginkgo Biloba is apparently correct. Btw, there is also irony in you not remembering what it was for : - )

Mitchell:

Astounding things!  I was chuckling at the Emmy award and the reward you received for it (pink slip).  How cool it must have been to meet The Great Communicator.  When reading number 5, I can only come up with an old Wall Street term..."Nice trade"
