Yesterday Jessica Hughes memed me. I was away from a computer all day attending Hanukkah and Christmas parties. It's all part of the first Active Rain Meme. I'm supposed to tell you 5 things about myself that you don't know and then meme 3 others.
1. This one still raises eyebrows: I attended Woodstock the Music Festival at age 12. No my parents weren't hippies. Far from it. They sent my sister, brother and myself to camp in the Poconos. They went on vacation to Hawaii. The traditional camp trip was to go to the Tanglewood Music festival in The Berkshires. Some one at the camp had the idea to go to Woodstock since the farm was only about 30 minutes away. It hit the news even in Hawaii, my parents, grandparents and every kids parents were calling the camp to get their kids out of there. Needless to say the New York State Thruway was closed so we stayed for 2 days.
2. When I was 5 my Uncle ran for Mayor of New York City. I remember the campaign. Politics was quite different in those days. He lost the mayoral race but was elected Attorney General of New York State in landslide elections for the next 22 years. He was a beloved Republican in a Democratic State.
3. In my previous life I worked in the Motion Picture and Television Industry. During the 80's I was The Director of Sales and Marketing for The Hollywood Reporter. I won't bore you by dropping names of all the movie stars and celebrities I've met except to say the bigger they are or were the nicer they are. On a business trip to Washington D.C. for the NATO awards dinner (not the North Atlantic Treaty Organization but The National Association of Theatre Owners, I was invited to the White House and met President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan. Reagan had a long history with The Hollywood Reporter. The founder and Editor of the paper Bill Wilkerson was quite the Conservative and wrote a right wing column every day. Ronald Reagan was a liberal Union leader. He was President of (SAG) the Screen Actors Guild and wrote quite a few Letters to The Editor. While at The White House a top aid to The President really wanted to attend our star studded dinner. I pulled some strings and was able to get another ticket. I sold the cover of The Special NATO Issue of The Hollywood Reporter to the NATO Star of the Year Arnold Schwarzenegger.
4. 10 years later I was The Associate Producer of a documentary film about the History of New York Television that aired on PBS and won an EMMY. A few months later I was laid off.
5. In 2005 I sold my apartment to my investor client. He bid on two others in the building unsuccessfully. There was an inventory shortage. Always looking out for my clients I sold him my apartment and I am now renting it back from him.
I'm tagging Connie Pepenella, David Knudsen and Tim Maitski.
