I have started and stopped this post, edited and re-edited more times than I care to admit. A subject near and dear to my heart but uncomfortable talking about at times. Within my circle of friends, family and colleagues it is not difficult to mention or talk about. But when it comes to talking to the community it becomes more difficult.
With the market slower, many in our industry are having a difficult time financially and emotionally. This can reek havoc on many families. Not only in our industry but throughout the country in many other industries.
The Holidays are a difficult time of year for many. Those with addictions seem to indulge even more and depression is a major concern for many. Holiday celebrations often include more drinking and then driving
home or to the next celebration.
Unfortunately, I have lost friends and family to suicide and alcohol/drug related accidents.
Please reach out to someone if you or someone you know is having a difficult time during the Holiday season.
Please call a cab, friend or family member to drive you if you have been drinking. The cost of being caught or worse yet hurting or killing yourself or someone else because you didn't make that phone call is more than the financial implications.
Sometimes its difficult to make that call. Sometime you don't know who to call. If you need a ride and are in the Chicagoland area, I am willing to pick you up or get you a ride.
I challenge you to make the commitment to be a source for someone to call if they need a ride or someone to talk to.

This is a timely reminder and important message. It seems like some of the myths of drinking and driving are
being embraced by younger drivers. Like "it doesn't matter how much I drink, if I eat a lot and
it is over a long time." People at parties can check with everyone who leaves to make sure they
are OK to drive. Portland cab companies have a New Year's Eve service for free rides. Unfortunately that
is only one of the holidays where people drink in excess. Concerned friends can offer to pay for a cab, too, anytime, or give someone a bed for the night.
KIM: It is very very nice that you volunteered to help out in your area!
