Give me a Coffee Break...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp. <SBUX.O> on Thursday reported higher quarterly earnings, helped by a larger number of stores and a recent price increase that boosted sales.

The media is at it again bashing Real Estate as if this is the only thing bringing down the economy.  I think the press is.  Starbuck reported a reduction in traffic and the news attached it to the houseing market slump.  What about the fact that gas prices are climbing and maybe one cup of Starbucks might keep the gas tank full every week.

After investing in Starbuck I've learned the Starbucks Effect has changed marketing and our lives, it's become a meeting place for the fast moving corporate world.  It's also very expensive, I used to pay almost $450 monthly on my triple venti soy latta in CT.  Now my wife makes me a nice strong cup of "maxwell house" joe every morning.  Total cost priceless ($300 per year)

I can't believe that the real estate industry is responsible for the slump in Starbucks stock.  That's about the most rediculous reach I've ever heard.

Could it be:

  • They are competing with McDonalds for a premium cup of coffee.
  • The are overpriced compared to every other coffee shop in town.
  • They have reached the saturation point in towns that meet their demographics and the Chinese are tea drinkers.
  • Their coffee is bitter.  Dunkin Donuts' is not.

Love those Maple Nut Oat Scones!!

I don't buy that at all.  I can't speak for everyone, but the Starbucks near my house has a line out the door every morning!  They also now offer sandwiches and other stuff...they seem busier now!

The lines still look long to me also, but I know I've cut back on quite as many Starbucks trips myself.
