KISS your blog

That's right ... Keep It Simple you Silly blogger!

There are many blogs that I would really like to comment on but unfortunately I just don't have the time to read very many 5000 word essays.  And looking at the comment counts, I'm not the only one.  Commenting is a critical component of a successful blog and part of what Google, Yahoo & MSN see as the "beauty of the blogging format".

And YES ... before preaching I have to admit that I'm also guilty of getting too wordy and long winded with some of my blog posts.

If you're inclined to write long essays you should consider adding them as new content pages to your website (where you'll benefit most from them).  Remember that your blog is a "web log" or "web journal".

Here are some guidelines that I try to follow ...

  1. Keep your blog Interesting - Make sure you engage your audience, whether that is other real estate professionals or real estate consumers.

  2. Keep your blog Short - Can you read your blog entry in less than two minutes?  If not, don't expect many comments.

  3. Keep your blog Fun - Blogs are a "social media" so don't be a "Gloomy Gus".  Your personality should shine through.

Happy Blogging!

Good tips Larry.  I found my blogs were getting a little lenghty, so I'm trying to make them "snappier"

aloha - have a great weekend

But, but, but.  I have so much to say and so little time in which to say it.

I like short, I like sweet but if they have graphics and white space I will read a long one. (if it is good)

I look for content -- and sometimes humor -- I try to make my blogs informative and interesting!  Thanks for the tips -- it always is good to hear from others who have done this far longer than I have.

Larry, thanks for the advice. I look for interesting titles. I often click on great titles only to find a long blog and stop reading. I want to read very short blogs NOT novels.

I agree with you. The average person doesn't want to read 5000 word essays. The blogs should be kept short, simple and to the point.

I ususally don't have time to write everything that I want to say.  But some of the longer posts are very interesting and informative.
