Local Chino resident, Reva Salter will be the first to receive the Spirit of Achievement Award during an official unveiling ceremony of the City's newest piece of community art on Wednesday, November 14, at 11:00 am.  This inaugural award will recognize Reva's long standing commitment to community service within the City.

"This is a brand new form of recognition for individuals within our community and Reva embodies the ideal of community service," said Mayor Dennis Yates.  "I could not think of a better person to receive this prestigious award."

Reva's accomplishments are many; she is a past President of both the Chino Rotary Club and the Board of Directors of the Chino Valley YMCA.  She is a Life Member of Soroptimist International of the Chino Valley and served on the Board of Directors of the Chino Neighborhood House for more than 25 years.  She is a founding member of the Chino Youth Boxing Foundation and served for more than 20 years on their Board.  The Planning Commission honored Reva's 29 years of commitment as a Planning Commissioner by creating the "Ma Chino" award which is given out at the Mayor's State of the City address.

In 1987, Reva was honored as Chino's Outstanding Citizen of the Year and was named the Woman of the Year by the 61st California Assembly District on two occasions, once in 1996 and again in 2004.

Reva's numerous contributions to the community have been well recognized by several organizations to include the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce, California Park and Recreation Society and the Juvenile Justice Commission.

The inaugural Spirit of Achievement Award ceremony will take place at the base of the newly placed Spirit of Achievement statue located on Central Avenue between City Hall and the Carolyn Owens Community Center.  From then on, the Spirit of Achievement award will be awarded annually to a group or individual who has contributed to the betterment of the Chino community, its residents and or businesses.

"This new piece of community art will serve two important purposes," said Mayor Yates.  "It will recognize those like Reva, who give so much back to Chino and it will further define the image of the downtown civic center area."
