Why I Like Being a Pinhead, You Should Too

Pinterest!During a presentation to some business owners this week, once again the topic of Pinterest came up. Seems since having Kelly Lieberman on my radio show, The Social StudmuffinPinterest has really been on my radar. Seems Pinterest is taking the country by storm, and with good reason. Pinterestoffers so much in the way of sharing, sharing in a visual, broad manner.

Pinterest can be used for sharing information about who you are, what makes you tick, and what interests you. You can pretty much tell whatever story you want, as much as or as little information as you choose. The possibilities are limitless, and only hindered by your imagination. Check out what my friend Anne has done with one of herPinterest boards, amazing. Or check out Kelly’s board “Beyond Words” so much cool info available, how can you not be inspired to create a board for yourself to tell the world who you are. Share new gift ideas, shopping ideas, the list goes on and on.

Pinterest is a great tool for businesses as well. I cannot believe how much fun I have had with it creating boards for my clients. If you can find the info on the net, you can pin it to a board. Lets think about different ways to use Pinterest. Interior designers, home stagers, auto mechanicslife coachesreal estate agents, tourist groups, Chamber of Commerce, sports teams…The limit is your imagination. Here’s a board I created to honor one of my favorite people, Grace Kelly. I like seeing that board, it reminds me how cool I thought she was. I am starting one for Sir Winston Churchill and Teddy Roosevelt, my two favorite people in history. With that in mind do you think that a school report could be done within Pinterest. There’s a challenge for teachers who are into utilizing social media and it’s tools in their teaching routines. Are you open enough to use it?

At the moment Pinterest is still in beta and you will need an invite to join, follow me onTwitter and send me a tweet asking for an invite and I will oblige. If you already have a Pinterest page and would like some help in applying it to your business, contact me on Twitter and I will be available.

I've been hearing all about it. So far I've stayed away from another time-consuming, unnecessary social media platform, but who knows? I'll probably give in eventually.

I like Pinterest. Not just for my own either. I am slowly but surely adding to my Real Estate in Minnesota board. I figured if I'm on the board I may as well use it for my interests.

I really enjoy Pinterest and wish I had more time to spend there pinning and repinning. But more exicting to me as an entrepreneur is watching this all unfold and wondering what the final price will end up being- what is their offer they simply won't be able to refuse. These ideas are so brilliant and I love it when I read about the millions and billions of dollars they get paid at the end of the day... so exciting for the owners of Pinterest!

Jill, unnecessary and time consuming are not words I would use to describe Pinterest. The fact that the there is no character limit in the decriptions is a wonderful tool. Think about how you could use it for real estate, boards about the different schools, parks, shopping in your target neighborhoods. Be creative

Lehel, great site with so much to offer,

Lindsey, I agree, I don't care what business you are in, Pinterest offers a great tool for promotion, and on a personal level it fun too.

Katerina, I have been invited to numerous beta projects, it is not about the tool itself, it is about how it can be applied. Pinterest has limitless uses, and can be applied in so many different endeavors. I have been working with it for quite some time now, and still find new and exciting ways to apply it every week.

A lot of people are getting hooked on this, but I see the benefits.  You really can be yourself here.  One thing I don't get yet is how you follow a topic.  The minute I put a certain pin up, people I don't know from Adam pop up and repin it.  How are they finding it immediately?

"Pinterest can be used for sharing information about who you are, what makes you tick, and what interests you. You can pretty much tell whatever story you want, as much as or as little information as you choose. The possibilities are limitless, and only hindered by your imagination."
