Jason and I recently purchased a new construction home in the Greater Griffin Georgia real estate market. We weren't actually "in the market" for a new construction home in the Griffin Georgia area, but this home was just perfect for us. The reason why it was just perfect for us was because I actually helped the builder with all the major decisions. Where the home should be located at. What floor plan to build. I picked out the fixtures. The colors that went in each room. I even picked out which brand of appliances should go in it.
I was completely in love with the home by the time it was finished.
So..........
You guessed it...we bought it!
It was so exciting living in a new construction home! Everything was so new! Everything was so clean! Kind of like when you buy a new car...it just had that certain smell of being new.
Then our first problem happened (and it kept on happening)....
We would wake up every morning and there would be a huge puddle of water and ice on our kitchen floor. I'm talking... HUGE puddle. What was even weirder about it all, was that our icemaker would be completely empty!
I called the builder who told me that I needed to contact the refrigerator manufacturer for any issues with the appliances. So, I called the manufacturer and they more or less told me that I was crazy. My refrigerator wasn't possessed and wouldn't be spitting ice out in the middle of the night just for the heck of it!
Well, it kept happening and I kept calling. They finally agreed to send somebody out to look at it. Of course, the repairman couldn't find the first thing wrong with it! He more or less told me that I was crazy (very politely...but that is what he called me) and that NOTHING was wrong with my refrigerator or icemaker!
Later that week, I got up around 3:00 AM because I had to leave out early for a continuing education class that was a good 2 hours away. I stumbled my way into to the kitchen to fix me a glass of water...
Darcy (our Great Dane) was at the fridge pushing his nose into the icemaker! He was making all the ice spill out! I just sat there and watched! He didn't stop until all the ice had completely poured out! He then turned and saw me standing there watching him and took off running (right across the ice)! He hit it and slid into the keeping room and knocked over the "couch table" and everything came crashing off of it!
Big dumb dog!!!! I wish I had caught it on video! It was priceless!
So, make sure you've exhausted all possible causes to any appliance issues before calling your builder or the manufacturer! However, if you're convinced that your fridge is haunted and want to move...I will be glad to help you with that!
Now THAT is funny, Jessica. Hmmm...how do you dog proof a fridge?
