In addition to attending regional networking events, I began Electronic Networking on various free websites.

Active Rain   -   Plaxo   -   LinkedIn

It requires some work but like all networking relationships it requies time and energy. Some times I wonder if it is worth the investment online but this is the same way I feel about some regional events.

So I commit some time to all three sites following up on contacts and providing pertinant information - again similar to what I do at regional networking events.

Electronic Networking is a new concept so if you are considering this practice understand it takes time and energy. It may not seem as personal as meeting with folks face to face but with our schedules as real estate professional trying to balance our family and finances - Electronic Networking sees to reduce the cost and give us the time flexibility as to not take away from our family time.

Yes, it requires a lot of time. Hopefully, the connections pay off. Good success to you, Nancy

I am using all three.  It has been interesting with Linkedin.  I think this is the spammeres for the Nigerian Money!  I will be rich some day!

We're here, of course, and I don't think I would have the time to work something else. So far AR has really helped drive our other blog, and that's worth the effort here alone. And then there are the AR friends... what a gas it's been.

This is so important to do in this day and age.  I would add Facebook to this list.

As you know Plaxo and LinkedIn have some sort of relationship. I have never taken advantage of this connection because I want to protect the persons on the various databases I have complied and I am not clear yet what would happen if I link Plaxo with LinkedIn.

I am still learning about this new concept but what is a Facebook?

Eliud,

Good Luck with your new Endeavor. You are absolutely right- it's a great opportunity, but one that takes time. Quick FYI on Linked In - your profile views and ranking are determined by the number of people you are linked with, by your profile (percentage filled out), and by the number of questions you ask and answer. Thought you'd like to know.

As for Plaxo and LinkedIn - a transfer of your contacts from LinkedIn to Plaxo results in you being able to invite people to join you on Plaxo. It doesn't automatically add them to Plaxo as a contact.

I knew Active Rain ranked you according to profile, blogs, posts and comments but I didn't know LinkedIn also used this type of ranking and/or scoring. Where is this located on LinkedIn?

Also as for the Plaxo and LinkedIn - I primarily used Plaxo for my database (linked to my MS Outlook and Blackberry) and my concern is if I link them to another site that I may scare some away from my networking efforts on Plaxo.

Has any body experience that when linking your business network members to a different web based networking opportunities - that they then ask to be removed from your primary database?

I'ved worked too hard to develop my current database that I don't want to mess it up it by trying to enhance the web services available on these sites.

Eliud I find AR to 'satisfy' all my needs as Gary said. Mastermind group, friends, resources, easy to use and improves my Google ranking...Did I mention a friend I haven't seen in years Googled me and AR was the first link that was found? Lovely.
