Buying A Home During The Holiday Season

By
Real Estate Agent with Re/Max Vision

Are we too busy with gifts for other people to spend money on one of the most important purchases we can make?

Homes are still selling.  There are many owners who have had their homes on the market for extended periods and just want to sell them.  Why do buyers believe the market is not good for them especially during the holiday season?  I think it is an ideal time.  A buyer with a strong approval should move forward.  Sellers are willing to work with potential buyers on price, closing costs, and quick settlements.  A well prepared seller has been informed by their agent that willingness to negotiate can lead to a quicker sale.

There are some issues for sellers that limit how much they are willing to negotiate such as their cost of purchase, short sales, and the need to recoup a specific amount at settlement.  The question of what we as agents can do to encourage our clients that holiday shopping can still include a home remains.  There is nothing better than putting those gifts under the tree in their new home.  Happy selling and happy holidays.

I find the buyers shopping during the holiday season (and winter in general) are the most serious.

I have spoken with my sellers and advised them that I felt buyers during the holidays are "real" buyers. Why would anyone look during the Thanksgiving to New Year's period unless they were serious?

Those that are still in the game between Thanksgiving and New Years are "real" - they are the "real" sellers, the "real" buyers and the "real" agents.
