During the last decade or so, many people, including our family, have been "going green" and doing things in their everyday lives to help save, conserve, & make the world a better place for themselves, people around us, and future generations to come.

A large part of this concept is energy/water conservation.

One way our family has "gone green" is installing showerhead shut off valves, Shower valve which reduces both water and energy usage (heating the water). This allows you to shut off the water, at your set temperature, and lather up with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, etc. and then turning back on when ready to rinse. These are extremely beneficial in the smaller shower stalls, like 32" or 36" units ,where there's not near the room like in a tub/shower unit.

These showerhead shut-off valves are also very easy to use (1/4 turn on & off) and install. They are manufactured with male and female threads, so it's just a matter of unscrewing your existing showerhead and installing the valve in-between the shower arm and the showerhead (Don't forget the teflon tape) and voilà!, a green shower.

Hey Joshua-that sounds like something to think about as I am prepping to renovate 2 baths right now!

Joshua this is a perfect example how being green is habit forming. Once you start using this shut off valve then it becomes second nature, thanks for the tip.

David,

Funny how it works that way.  Now if I can only get the kids into the green habit of turning off the lights  :)

After being in the Navy for 4 years you get used to shutting the water off and on. They also wanted no more than 3 min showers.  My kids averaged out at about a half hour.

Jack,

My wife is the worst culprit.   And I've got two young daughters who are growing up quick & I'm sure they'll be just like their mom.   Maybe I should think about enlisting them in the Navy pretty soon, huh?  Thanks for the tip!
