I want to work from home, but again I am so mixed up on what to do.

For you that do work from home, is their always something (say a file, survey, or form) that you need and it is at the office.  How do you handle this?

Some one help me make this decision!!

I think working for home is based on individual situations.  Sometimes it just doesn't work because of too many distractions.  I work from home and enjoy it.  Only me at home.  I just have to keep focused and being a red personality I'm usually always have things to do.  Sometimes I wonder if I focused on the right things.  Oh well.  Good Luck with your decision.

I can tell you my agent(s) work from home.  As long as they have a computer, Internet, cell phone, fax and scanner it CAN BE DONE!  Our MLS forms and other contracts are available online-we simply print them out.  Company related forms, letterhead, etc are also easily printed out.  Make sure anything you need from your office is on your computer or can be retrieved from their web site.  YOUR calls, YOUR faxes and YOUR e-mails should be going to you.  The way I see it, the physical office isn't necessary anymore due to all the technology we have.

You can do most of your work from home, prospecting, email followup, etc.

You do need to be focused. Forms and stuff can all be put online.

As a manager for over 18 years, I have watched some of my best agents work from home. Simply set up a room where you have all you need: fax, printer, files, etc. make your calls, focus and work away. tehgre are less distractions from all the usual suspects, including the gossip, the fun and games, the long lunches, etc. Just do it.

Working from home is great unless being by yourself all the time makes you crazy.  I go to my office to see people and bounce ideas off of them.  I do a combination of both.

Not a REALTOR myself, but as a loan officer I have worked from home. For me, I lost focus and got too comfortable. And now with kids, no way I'd get anything done.

Be careful if you do it. It can make you lazy if you don't watch out.

I have a complete home office, and I start my day there, mainly I respond to email that came in over night. I also prepare for showing appointments and search the mls for new listings that might be right for my clients., But I drive into the office nearly every day. there is some value for me to actually "go to work" then in the evening I make a few phone calls to folks that are only available then. This kind of split schedule works for me as the office is only a few miles from my home.

I work from home most of the time.  I go into the office for floor time and once in a while at other times. The fact that the office is about 5 minutes away from home is very helpful.  So this might be part of any decision to work at home-how far away is the office if you need to go there.  Also, pretty much all of the forms I need I can get online.  This is another part of the decision - the availability of forms online. Whatever forms are not online I just keep multiple copies at home. To work at home as a minimum you need a computer with internet access, you need to belong to your local MLS, you need a printer, a fax machine and a cell phone.  A scanner would probably be nice, but I don't have one and so far haven't really needed one.

I love working from home!  I don't ever need much from the office and if I do, the office manager can email it to me via scanning....I find that there are less interruptions for me.  The key for me, though, was having a dedicated office at home and also state of the art equipment so that there was nothing I would want for at the office.  Good luck!

The Internet has made working at home all that much easier.....you can even set up meetings if you have to with Go Meeting or another one....

Another consideration is to make sure your treat it like work....get dressed, and ready, as you never know when that call might come in and you have to go show a property, or whatever.  The main office can be used for meeting clients, but the majority of your work can be done from home...keep a shadow file, and mls printouts...then you should be able to be very productive :) :)

That sounds so good Kathy, I think I will give it a try.  Especially this winter.

Thank you,
