National Association of Realtor Expo review in Las Vegas for 2007

Having attended the National Association of Realtor Expo in Las Vegas this year I wanted to write down a few thoughts and open a forum for those who attended. Feel free to post a comment if you attended and have something to say about the Realtor Expo.

My first observation was the overall size of this event, it was massive. However, upon further review I noticed at least half of all the booths were companies that want to develop websites for agents. I couldnt believe how many companies make money off of this. There are so many ways to produce a free website, I was astonished at the prices some of these companies charge. At the VM Group, we provide our agents with a FREE lead generating website, so I was amazed at all the agents who would pay for something like this.

My second observation was the large amount of international investment booths. Without looking into these investment opportunities further, I was amazed that literally every corner of the globe was covered. It seems that every place BUT America is a good place to invest in right now.

Interesting on the number of website development booths... Some of the "free" websites you get provided with at a lot of places are just not that good... they look exactly like everyone else's websites, and have little room for customization.... so I think that there is a big demand for more "custom" of websites more than the "canned website" offered by so many.

I too was surprised at the large number of companies offering property in other countrys. I was amazed at the large number of vendors selling yard signs. There were a couple of vendors who even had lighted yard signs and brochure boxes. Yikes EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And there were a handfull of real estate couches selling their systems.

There was a company that interested me called EZ Neighborhoods which built a web site, basically for your farm. It gave neighborhood info, like association meetings school function etc. It was a little pricey to set up. I think she said $399. after that you had to maintain it and pay them $45 a month. She said some customers defray the cost by selling ads on the sight to for example the local Pizza Hut. You could click on the Pizza Hut icon and print out a coupon. It was cool, but I thought, my husband is a computer networking specialist. He could probably do the same thing for free, or at least cheaper.

I went to NAR a couple years ago and was disappointed with the classes held, but really did like all the vendors.....The amount of vendors at those conventions is amazing I spent two days just looking at all the stuff for sale and what not......I kept a lot of the cards of the new things that I wanted to buy or add to my business but one thing I found was that many of these new vendors were out of business pretty quickly.....

Make sure you really research the company also before you buy anything as it would suck to have bought something and not get replacements or a web site that you have to have another company rebuild....

At KW we also have free web sites however the difference in my opinion is you get what you pay for....its easy to spend 5-50K on a web site I know that I have spent a lot over the years and next year am going to have to rebuild it again to keep up with technology...
