Why is my Smart Phone so much smarter than Me?

Technology, you can love it and you can absolutely hate it! Old Phone

Saturday my cell phone went on the blink. Totally black, no picture, nothing. Sunday the screen re-appeared.

Not taking any chances I went to the Sprint store and got a new phone so they could transfer my data.

I'll be the first to admit, my phone had seen better days but I've really been fighting the Smart Phone. I don't think I want everything at my fingertips ALL the time.

I like quiet time with my husband. He likes it when I pay attention to him and am not texting or worse, talking non-stop on the phone.

Smart phone

The guy at Sprint convinces me to go ahead and get a Smart phone. Against my better judgment. I agreed.

I now have a New Smart phone.  I know how to call out. I know how to answer incoming calls, and I know how to send and receive text messages.

What I can NOT do, is pick up voice messages. It won't let me set it up. I have messages I can't get!

I haven't set up email.

I'm still trying to figure out the ringer.

Why do I need a special degree to use this phone?

Connie,

What you need is a teenager around!  I have three and they are all over the technology and frequently are our go to folks.  My one teenager spent the day showing her Grandfather how to use his new iPhone two years ago.  A few weeks later when he was showing how he could play audio on his iPhone on the golf course, he called back to ask her how to turn it off!

Good luck, this too shall pass.  I would bet you'll be enjoying it's smartness soon, as you discover the little gems it can do.

All the best, Michelle

Do you have access to an 8 year old kid? They are the best techies you can find.

Connie,  I don't really think there are any "smart phones" out there. Iif they were truly smart, they would set up everything themselves and we wouldn't have to worry.

Hey Connie -

I know at first it is different and challening you, but in good time you'll figure out how to do what you want.  I use a Droid and have a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Prevoulsy I had a Crackberry and was quite comfortable with it. To get a handle on the new phone and Tab I made a few friends in my local store and they are happy to help me. When I got the Tab I left it with the girl over lunch and she set everything up for me. Then after my relaxing lunch I went back and she showed me how to use stuff. Little bites. I feel I've mastered it, but it took patience and help.

I love my Droid and can't imagine being without.  I post upload presentations and docs to GoogeDocs and can retrieve wherever I go. I can be at lunch and get a call about a property. I can pull up an app from my phone and check it out immediatly. Clients love it. People don't expect you to have a smart phone but when they know you do, they have a better opinion of you; you're cool, forward thinking, smart, and successful. Young couples want a young attitude.

You're a sharp cookie so just give it some time, play with it, ask for help. You'll do fine.

Because you are so very smart, the phone had to give you just a bit of humility. Check your attitude and let that phone know who is in charge. That would be you!

Connie,

I was lucky to have Rachel to teach me everything on the phone.  Her favorite saying for a week was, "Mommmmm, give it to me, I'll show you."   However, once you get it down, you will love it!!!!  Start downloading apps!  My favorites, Evernote, foursquare and a great app for showing property is Tour narrator.  Call me if you want help.

Hi Connie.  I feel your pain.  Why do make them so complicated?

I stopped by the store this morning after lifting weights. I had 13 voice messages. Got it working now. I'm still not ready to attempt email. :)

I bought one and returned it with out even opening the package...connectivity 24/7 would surely drive me mad!
