Today is Super Bowl Day! My all-time favorite team, The Giants, (from my days living in NY) are playing against the New England Patriots and I can't wait! The Lucas Oil Stadium fans are abuzz with anticipation. People all over the world will be watching the game. Some will be partying, some will be betting on the game, and some will be praying that his or her team wins. Now hold it...! Praying? Yes praying. Partying I understand, gambling I know, but praying, for what?
Well here is an example of a prayer by Archbishop Hannan: "Oh God, who has promised that the Saints will one day reign in glory, we beseech you to hasten that day. Now is the acceptable time...Grant that we may enjoy such a winning season that at the Superbowl we may see the Saints go marching in." This was just before a preseason game between the Saints and the Dolphins, and wouldn't you know it, the Saints lost to the Dolphins.
In an article entitled "Save Your Prayers, Please," a sports columnist wrote: "Just because you rant and rave about how tight you are with God, doesn't necessarily mean it's true..." Amen Mr Sports Columnist. Both teams prayer but one will win and one must lose. So then, one should wonder: Does God take sides? Does he favor one team over the other? Does he hear these type of prayers? Is he partial? The answer is an emphatic NO!
If the Super Bowl Predicting Dog has her say, my team will lose see video. I hope my team wins but I ain't praying about it!
