Help, how do I get more of my agents to embrace technology?

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential Choice Properties

I have been in this business for 30 years.  I am excited by innovations in this business.  I sure could use your help on how to help my agents get turned on to new tech tools and web sites.

What kind of help can I provide as an owner to make life easier for you as an agent?

What things are you looking for in a company, manager, co-workers to help you reach your personal income goals.

I want to be able to offer the best service for agents and customers in my company. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The best way is usually to demonstrate what it gets them. If you can demonstrate a savings in time, money and effort, you can usually win converts.

The best format in which to do this is to provide specific, targeted seminars for your folks where you give real world demonstrations of what the tech can do for them. This needs to be REAL WORLD. Don't just hand over the tool and smile. you need to show them, step by step, using a real world example of how this is going to make things better for them.

Hi Sam, Get them to take NAR's e-PRO course ! I talked to a smart broker in Hawaii that makes it a requirement for his agents to take the course in the first 6 months they work for him! Smart man

Sam - Show them the benefits of using the new technology. I noticed you're fairly new to AR and I'm not sure if you've gotten business here yet or not, but when you do I'd be sure to let them know!

I couldn't imagine being in the real estate business and not having a strong web presence.

Oh, and welcome to Active Rain!

Sam,

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

I know you have heard this before but it's true.  If you don't have a tech savoy group start hiring tech savoy agents.

Tell the older agents (older mean have been with you longer) to lead - follow - or get out!  You might have a large task ahead of you but you will reap the rewards later.

I'm in an office of almost 100 agents- few use databases- websites- blogs and email.

I laugh at agents literally laugh at them when I see them doing things the "old fashion way" not to be nasty but to make a point.

Most of the time it's the same agent complaining about the market or the fact that the buyers are not buying.

As a trainer and coach for 17 years I always think about the above phrase.

Welcome to ActiveRain, Sal! Start with the statistic that "over 75% of real estate buyers begin their search online", and then show your agents how they can develop an online presence through blogging. Play to your agents' strengths - some are good writers, others like to research, others take great photos. All of that makes great online content. Maybe even create some small 'web teams' to build some group enthusiasm. Good luck!
