Recently a team member in my office forwarded to me a recruiting email from a competing broker. Outside of being a bit wordy, the recruiting message was actually very good. The concept was "Dare to be Different." The idea was to focus on the latest technologies to advance your business. The manager referenced items such as blogging, LinkedIn, ActiveRain, etc.
I decided to investigate my competitors offering. Here is what I found . . . I visited his office website and clicked on a link called "Manager's Blog- Find out what the manager has to say about the latest market trends." So I clicked on the link. I was surprised to find the following single/solitary statement, "Looking for Information about Ashburn Sales Office, Contact the office at the above office number." Yep, that's right, one entry, one line, nothing else.
As a sales agent I used to tell prospective clients on listing appointments the following statement, "Some agents will come through your door, promise you lots of things and then fail to do them. Some don't promise anything and then do nothing. I use a written marketing plan, so that you may hold me accountable."
The same holds true in leading a real estate office. Some make promises and break them, some don't promise anything. On the wall in my office is a framed letter to my agents, it lists eleven things that I promise to do for my agents. The last line reads, "Above All Else, Practice What I Preach." -Brian
Hi Brian - I left a brokerage in July that didn't practice what they preached. A lot of hype and no substance. I didn't realize how bad of a reputation they had until I left and heard it in the real estate community. Great post!
