as we work with our clients we need to make sure that they are safe for the future... I always suggest to my clients to use a Licensed contractor for everything they do to their home.. and we try to take care of other things prior to listings.. Here is a great reason to make sure we always get multiple bids on work by licensed people. I know these times have created heart ach in the housing industry with scams and shoddy work. lets help each other and support each other to keep people safe.
I have a client that bought a
brand new roof and chimney in
1999 and today they have to sell that home. The problem is
the inspection came
back and the roof was installed incorrectly and the chimney is pulling
away
from the house, cracking and pulling the roof away from the home as
well.
Now, not only were these done by
the same person, but they
cost way more than they should have been and the person is
no longer in
business. (Of course) Now, for problem number two with these repairs.
These
were paid for by PDC (Portland Development Commission) in the form of a
loan
that my clients are still paying off.
Now, this work wasn’t done by a
licensed contractor, oh no,
it was supervised by a licensed contractor through the PDC
and they used High
School Students to do the work under a high school vocational program.
So, now my clients are stuck
paying for these repairs a 2nd
time just to get their home sold and no one is
volunteering to help them
despite being so quick with the help back in 1999 and expecting payment
for
those overpriced repairs.
So, if you are getting work done
on your home, please make
sure that the person doing the work guarantees their work and
also get an
inspection of that work when they are done or you could be paying for
it for
years and beyond like my clients are having to.
