I'm curious, do any of you Brokers out there run criminal and pedifile checks on potential agents prior to letting them join you?   I just added an agent , now gone as I found out he was one bad dude.  I was lucky to find out by accident before getting associated with his criminal activity.

We run background checks for my networking group.  No problems yet but it's a great tool just in case!  You can usually get a decent background check from the State (i.e. Attorney General) for a low cost ($5 in Rhode Island).

I think they cost $10 in PA so it's no big deal to do.  These days it's good to google their name and do a background check.

Greg-

One very simple tool that can be a surprisingly helpful screen is to google the individual's name and carefully read down the list of items that are revealed.  There are reseach companies out there that will do full investigations for several hundred dollars per person-- but, trust me, google is more valuable than you would ever imagine.

As far as I know, you won't be able to get a Real Estate license without submitting a criminal back ground check report.   At lease here in North Carolina.

Thanks for the responses,  I'm hesitant to do searches ourselves, like a google search as it opens up too much liability if we miss something.  We have the ability to do the searches by an outside company for around $20/search.  Really wondering what others in place policy is?  Thanks for the comments so far!
