Three weeks ago I abducted my mother from the home of another family member and took her to "visit" my aunt in another state. As far as anyone knew it was a simple family visit. I was hoping to find out that I was wrong about her relationship with her caretakers (family) and she could go back to them and be happy. Sadly, that didn't pan out.
During the time Mom was with her sister-in-law, disturbing things came to light. And it just keeps getting worse.
Mom's with us now, without her house, without her Hilliard Lyons account, and mad as a hornet.
We have made an appointment with a trust attorney for next week, so we'll know more about what's going on by then. It's just a shame. She and my dad worked hard for what they accumulated and now we're wondering if she'll be able to enjoy it.
This is a very small house. We're crammed in here like sardines, but she has her own room, freshly painted, furniture ordered to fit it for her, and enough plants on her window sill to start a nursery. My dad always said if you get Mom a pile of dirt, she'll be happy. He was right. She's happily digging right now. Funny, too...she is insistent that I go back to the other place and get her shovel. I've explained that we have shovels, but she wants hers. Apparently it's special. ;-)
Life changes...fast. Be ready.
