I was reading a book the other day called "The Seven Secrets" by John Hagee and on page 48 he gives reasons why people quit going to business establishments.  I thought this could also be true of why people use a differnt real estate agent everytime they buy or sell a home.  Rate yourself in these areas.

1% Die

3% Move away (should be using you to move)

5% Develop other friendships (meaning you did not stay close)

9% leave because someone beats your price (meaning you did not offer enough value for the money)

14% are dissatisfied with the product (meaning your were looking at for your commission not their good)

68% Don't like the attitude of the service provider (you did not share geninue concern for them)

Want to keep clients for life?  Don't die or let them die and treat them like they are family!  Plain and simply.

Very, very interesting statistics!  On average folks move every 5 years...definitely want to keep in touch with your previous clients...

Scott,

How true. I am going to check this book out at the library. You really make a great point here. Super post.

Absolutely, unfortunatly it seems that attitude and service is just not what it used to be.  This is an easy way to build a business because most others it seems, just don't care.

This is a great read, lots of insight into life.  I think there are seven secrets and each has seven points.  If we all just got one of the 49 points and put it into actions, how much better would our world be, and how much better would real estate be.  People helping people.  Imagine that.

Scott,

This list surely pertains to Realtor services as well. The lesson is: "Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care."

Sandy, great addition.  People really want you around when they know that you really do care!  Don't you find your best clients become your liife long friends?  I sure do.  Thanks for the wisdom.

Scott - like your comments on each of the bullet points. It's all about genuine follow up, isn't it...

Yes, I agree with your points.  We all must stay in touch with our past clients.

Good reminder.  I need to check out that book thanks for sharing

It is plain and simple and I like the percents! Puts things in perspective! Have a great Holiday!

Items 1 and 2 are correct. I am not sure I agree with #4 . I have met many people who will go to the least expensive agent and now in this market, they will call you six months later if the house has not sold.

Gita, your are probably right!  I have adopted a policy that has really helped me in life, not sure who coined this phrase, but here you go.  Whether you believe it or not...your right.

Blessings on your business!

Hi Scott,

This is interesting post.  Thank you for the reminder that we should always treat our clients as "Clients for Life".

I absolutely agree with you... on ALL points. I say treat them like you want to be treated!! Best of luck and Happy Holidays.

Yes, I've heard about these stats. The real question is what are people going to do about it. Sadly, for most Realtors the answer is nothing. If you need help with follow up, there is a great service called SendOutCards that provides a way to keep in touch with your clients and prospects.

We were just talking about this today.  I was told by my husband that I was too nice and needed to be more "business like" with prospects.  My personality is what draws others to me in my opinion....or so I thought.  He said I have to be 5% nice and 95% professional.  I guess you all are proving his point.  I will be in the corner pouting for a few minutes.  I will do what is required but I want to keep the real me.
