"Helping Others" around the Holidays

As I was getting my daughter ready this morning to go to school..."Mommy's Day out." She is not yet 3 years old.  Something came up that I was curious about.

They are having their School version of Thanksgiving today, since they attend only Tuesday's and Thursdays.  The school / church requested canned goods for their canned goods drive.

I'm sure I have thought of this before, but I don't recall.  Why is it that there seems to only be canned good drives, present offerings, Angel Tree donations, or you name it...around the Holidays?

What do the folks that need these items do the other 10 months of the year?

Am I alone in this thought?

I know there are year-round offerings and stuff, as I have been involved with them.  My question is this.  Why is there only a strong push for "helping" around the Holidays?

Is it because we are "giving people" only around that time?  We get too busy the rest of the time?

I know many people offer help and assistance all year long, it just seems that there is a mass marketing effort to "help out" only this time of year or for major natural disasters.

Just a question that popped in my head today?

What are your thoughts?

Our office is having a drive for the Treasure Coast Food Bank.  Last Thursday about 5pm our marquee sign was changed to say we were a drop off point.  By noon the next day we already had 4 cases and 3 bags of food dropped off from people who drove by and saw the sign.

That  shows that people really want to help if someone just shows them how.  You're right, though, that no one seems to think of it except holiday time or after a disaster.

Curt, good point. I have asked myself that question, and I should do more -- all year round. I also ask myself why do I only eat Turkey in November and December. I love turkey. I should eat turkey all year round too.

Thanks for the reminder that giving should be a daily priority, not just five weeks at the end of the year.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Wow!  That is great.  The repsonse to these "calls to action" always seem to produce great results around this time of year, which means people want to give...maybe the rest of the year nobody knows where to drop off food or other items too.

Paul, That's hilarious!  I seem to only eat turkey and stuffing this time of year also...and I love it!  Happy Thanksgiving!
