The Power of saying "Thank You"

I will tell you, I never realized what a gift with a card would do until I received a call the other day from the boss of a restaurant server that did an excellent job serving us a while back in the hotel I was staying at while doing the Rhode Island Treat'em Right Seminar.

It was late and I was hungry. The hotel restaurant was closed, but the bar was taking orders. I noticed our server was extremely busy and unlike most servers who stress over how busy there are, she was very polite and attentive.

As I sometimes do, I asked her if I could get her information because I would like to send her a card. As she volunteered her information, I asked for her birthday so I could send her a birthday card. She wrote her birthday down, as well. A few more trips to our table I felt impressed to ask for her bosss information. I told her I wanted her boss to know how good of a job she was doing. She came back with a card with her bosss address and phone number.

As I retired for the evening, I put her and her boss in my Sendoutcards Contact Manager and sent her a thank you card for her very impressive service.

The next morning, at the beginning of the Rhode Island Treat'em Right Seminar, one of the first things we did to demonstate our new features, was to send a card to the boss of the lady who served us the night before. Included with the card we sent a box of Avenue Sweets (a new feature of Sendoutcards), asking her boss if he would be so kind as to give her the box of candy. We clicked send and off it went.

Here is the rest of the story

The evening of Monday November 12th I got a phone call from the hotel bar and restaurant manager. The conversation went something like this

"Mr. Zimmerman, this is Riley from the ______ Hotel and I am sitting here with a box, a card, my manager and the lady who served you the other night. Mr. Zimmerman, I have been in the hotel restaurant business for over 20 years and I have never had a guest do anything like this before! We were planning on giving your server a raise in a few months, but we wanted to call and let you know she is getting one today. Thank you for your kindness Mr. Zimmerman. It was well appreciated."
