Good Wine Has To Age to Be Appreciated

This is not a rant. This is just an observation. This is something that everyone has to overcome here on AR.

When you join and start blogging, you have great ideas, you write entertainingly, there is substance and there is form… and there are few or no readers…

So freaking frustrating…

Good Wine Has to AgeYou write a post, and get a couple of comments, and then you read another post about the same issue, and it has 30-40 comments, or it is featured, and the comments are in hundreds. And it is no better than yours, or worse…

And nobody talks to you…

There is little or nothing you can do to overcome this in a minute, day, week, or month…

You are one of a huge group, and people do not know you yet. The bigger the group, the longer it takes to be noticed, to form your own circle. You can make it a little faster if you are actively commenting and entering others’ circles, but other than that, you are like good wine, which has to age to be fully appreciated.

I remember that feeling of vacuum around me…

There is unfairness on AR...

There is an unfairness in life in general…

Newbies on AR. Do not get discouraged, because it may happen even to the best written post in the world.

Time and concerted effort are the only remedies here.

Kim - yet when members build their followship, they are guaranteed to be read, and this is the way to grow your readership.

because there is nothing more frustrating as to put a good post out their and not having anyone to read it. At least for me. I do not think of SEO, robots and spiders when I write, but I think about people.

And, thanks for one interested reader. I appreciate that.

Jon, when I first read this post I could have sworn you were talking about me, :-)  I've been lucky enough to have two featured posts and if you had ask me when I was writing them I'd have told you they have no shot at a feature and I've written posts that I thought would get a big response and they got zip. I've given up trying to predict the results and just try to do my best no matter the subject.

Nancy - I went exactly through the same thing. Trying to fit, to predict... and nothing worked. Luckily, I did not waste too much time on trying to be popular and nice (LOL)

Jon, how true. It takes time to build readership, build relationships. And it can be very discouraging. But it will come.

It's nice of you, Jon, to provide encouragement to the newbies. I certainly went through that and sometimes, still do. I would say it takes a good year or year and a half before people know who you are. Mona Gersky wrote something today that she hopes you'll take the time to visit.

Hi Jon, Even after blogging for well over a year now, there is that little feeling every time I hit "publish" where I hope at least one person comes by and comments. It's just the nature of being human. Of course, I really never expect this for market reports, or some localism posts, so when a comment happens on these...well, a bonus for sure. I actually had one of the best things so far happen from blogging...and that was to get a call from an out of state couple that had seen my blogs about a neighborhood they want to move to. I'll be showing them property this weekend! Like you said, comments will come, business will come....but we need to work at it, reciprocate on comments and blog consistantly. This post shows that you're a true Ambassador!

Cindy - this is why I cringe when I read that somebody joined AR and will give it a try for one month and then see if it works for them.

No, one month will not work, 2 months will not work, and 3 months will not work

It is work and sweat and no immediate gratitude\thank you for your thoughtful comment

I remember in 06 if you weren't in with the 9 it was slow go for sure, talking about awful post and features and then the other favorite would write the same thing two weeks later and get featured

Hi Jon, We, who been around awhile know all to well what this is like. But we gather up a few readers and we meet through commenting and soon we pick up more readers and start frienships  . But we have to provide more than drivel. I was looking at a couple  non-newbies recently that build points on blog after blog of nothing but drivel and they still only  get a comment or two. They never got the part about building relationships based on offering some value . So depending on what people want ( it is clear they only want points) people should try and reach out. When I first discovered you, I felt your pride in our country and it moved me. It was not long before we had built a real friendship. You are insightful, ethical and provide wonderful information consistently.

William - you are right, I see those posts for points, and yes, they are empty, usually no comments. And there are great bloggers and great people who do miracles.

You are sort of separate, with your fascinating transformation from a solid all rounded agent to a totally different world, and you did not merge these worlds, you keep them close, but separately, and it is fascinating to watch.

Jon - You nailed it with your comment "there is an unfairness in life in general" ..... my web guy hubby used to tell our children "there is no such thing as fair"  but I believe the harder you work the more fair life becomes.
