Who Needs A Shrink?

Nobody loves the government. Even Real Estate agents… Real estate agents do not like what government is doing… Real Estate agents are smarter than the government…

Maybe, maybe, maybe…

May be not…

I think that we on AR mirror the “big” government. We just do not notice it.

Take so popular challenges on AR, especially those serial challenges, running for weeks and months. When the government comes with a stimulus (challenge) with a lot of dough (points), it works poorly.

I wrote that, then stumbled on “it works poorly” and then figured that this is a senseless phrase. The exact statement is not “works poorly”, but rather “it does not work”.

ChallengeFolks, it does not work, period. Not in challenges on AR, where we are rushed to write x number of posts in y number of days, and naively believe that this has positive effect on the business…

Not in government, which believes in a wonderful Christmas notion, that if you give people a lot of money, then they will buy all the crap you give them. And we will have healthy economy.

Perpetuum mobile of stupidity happiness...

If a kid would say this, we would smile, but when the big government says that ... we go and vote for them.

Somebody here needs a shrink.

Who could that be?

I had not thought of it that way but you are right.  It does not move the ball forward for the clients or the agents.

Tim - there is a good saying that we have the government we deserve, and in this sense we mirror our government. And when we yell that they are not efficient, are we?

Jon, I like your comment on children and how we patronize them, they see the truth and are willing to admit it.  We see the truth and ignore it.

Jon, is is all for the enthusiasm generated these contests...i do not believe it mirrors the government because many say it like it is BUT i don't see negative contests going on either...why would we focus on that I wonder?  Is it not best to tell the truth all around?

Jon, when I first started blogging I took a class from a non real estate related guy, it was a great class and he is a fairly well known blogger. (I can't remember who he was at this point in time, my brain is still fuddled from yesterday, sorry.) The class was called 31 days to better blogging. We blogged consistently for 31 days, daily for 31 days, with a different assignment for each day. There were different style assignments, such as writing a "list" posts. Then we put the link in the assignment post and many went to check them out, came back and told you what they thought.

It was hard to keep up, but I did. And it taught me consistency is best. Of course there are times when you just can't come up with one damn thing to say, but it did teach me many things. I look at these contests as a way to do the same thing, but there is no direction in the process.

I do know how much you dislike the contest thing, and you have stopped me from entering in a few of them. I admit that. There are some that just strike a chord within and I join in the challenge. But it has to work for me. It has to push me in some way.

Now you have turned on another light bulb. Thank you... LOL. Not what you intended to do I bet.

Dale - maybe because kids do not know all this "how it should be" thing? I am watching the news and I see that if the general election would be held today, Obama would have won Romney with 51% of votes.

And I am puzzled. How much more damage should one President bring upon his country for it to start even seeing that?

So, every day we are unhappy, but then will go and vote for him?

there is no freaking shrink that could help us here...(LOL)

Ginny - there is a common notion that some nations are great nations, and their only problem is the government they have. I do not believe it. In a sense, governments mirror their people, except maybe military juntas

Andrea - I know, I know, I know...

Yes, you can master the skill, and in that sense what you described was fabulous. Look, there are great teachers, great minds and if you spend time with them, you become richer in the best sense of the word.

There are a lot of times when the same is mimicked, and it is a waste of time.

It is easy to take great for mediocre and declare it great, when it isn't. Many challenges on AR were mimicking activity, and are no more than great waste.

Thee are things that can lift you... It is difficult.

Serial challenges for the most part were not lifting experience. You are describing your 31 day exercise as exercise. Different tasks, different stuyles... Loooks like a good learning experience. The major part here is that they were about learning "how to blog". they were supposed to prepare you for blogging.

Many serial AR challenges were not about how, they were about writing the more, the better, and it was actually open to the public.

What we are failing to understand is often that there are two sides. It is form and substance. You can train the form (how to), very diificult to "train" the substance (talents, good education to an extent). Form without substance is worth very little, but we came with the idea of pushing the form over substance, as not a single time these serial challenges and many other challenges were about substance

And in this sense it is mirroring the way our government works. Makes no sense to throw good money fter bad money, but this is what they are doing, again and again and again...

Jon...Love the post.  It isn't so much about AR contests and Challenges as it is about noticing the ills and evils around us.  Although the analogy does ring pretty true.

Jon, I used to chase the points on AR like a dog chasing it's tail.  I did but of course couldn't catch it.. it was a never eluding tail and it did not do my business a bit of good.  In fact, I have become aware lately that my business did better when I spent more time syndicating my listings, placing online ads etc..

Networking on AR and on FB has eaten a whole into my life.  At the same time there are people that I never would have "met" if I hadn't been here.  I'm hoping some day to meet you face to face.. and give AR the credit.

I've stopped chasing points a few months ago and I don't do contests unless it's something that I think is either a good idea or is a simply a post and I was going to write a post anyway.

It's a relief.. life is short.

Judi - I experienced the same. I am competitive, and points sucked me into writing things I am particularly proud of. I raise my voice a few times against chasing quantity versus quality, but it fell on dead (or busy with contests) ears (LOL)

So, it means I slowed down a bit
